after i get college going and i get a better understanding of how to use 3d crafter pro, i plan on making a few engines that i personally have interest in seeing. My first one would probably be the SD90 or UP U50. !!*ok*!!

My recommendation is to start slow. If you get that college class in 3D modeling then you can get 3DS Max at a student discount. That tool is much better than 3DCrafter and will take you further if you choose to have a career in this field.

Ya know I hate to sound like a prick, but you guys could very easily do this small talk stuff in PMs, then the rest of us would not think there was actually something in this post.

Well, being a prick is what I do best, so i'm going to go ahead and throw some discouraging news at you. Try to take it as constructive criticism and not a personal attack.

People who show up in the forums and promise they are going to change the world and make every locomotive known to man are a dime a baker's dozen. What happens in every instance is that they find out really quick just how hard it is to make a locomotive in Railworks, end up asking a billion questions, become very discouraged, and quit with a flaming post describing just how screwed up Railworks is and how RSC is the devil. And you are expecting to do this with no prior experience in 3D modeling?

I am not saying you cannot or should not do it. You should not, however, start out with such a big project. There are plenty of assets that are needed for Railworks - buildings, vegetation, vehicles, environments - all things in which you would learn incrementaly the techniques required to make the Big Salad.

Just about every modeler who has done rolling stock of some kind for Railworks started out on a much smaller scale. I've been modeling for three years, and just figured out this morning how to do specular shine, which is something a n00b should know.

well like i said thats why i plan on getting more knowlegde on it first. And i will never quit railworks. im my opinion its the best looking sim out there, just not with as much great stuff as all the other sims.

Never say never, it will come back to haunt you *!!wink!!*

I took up Chacal suggestion and scan google for some classes as I would like to learn how to model too. Many I the places I went expected you to already know what you were doing with 3D. A beginner class I finally found was 58 weeks, 340 hours and $1500. Too bad I have a day job of 10 hour days. 58 weeks is too much of a commitment for me at this time. Maybe when I retire in 6 years I will.

When you are ready, way down that line, do the SD90 first please *!!wink!!* Good luck in college, some really great times - and tough times are ahead of you young padawn. !!jabber!!
