Actually, since no standard cab versions were ever made, it was common to be called just the M420. The B-units were M420Bs.

These are interesting locomotives. I have ran them in the past, but other than watching them, I have never been a fan of Alco and MLW. The were slow in response to the throttle, and due to the type of trucks, would "rock" back and forth like a "Navy destroyer" in high seas! This would be, however, a very interesting model in RW, filling a void. Our railroad recently removed them from service, and sold them to various shortlines around the US and Canada, filling the gap with rebuilt GP40-3M's. I have attached a few of my photos...maybe they will help in your model building.

I always thought the M420 was a very interesting locomotive. It would be nice to see a few Century units available.

In all seriousness the model looks really good! Any ideas what liveries you're going to release it in?

MNNR uses one, and from my cab ride, she'd buck the GEs behind it. So it atleast loads faster than a GE. However the RS27s and the Century Alcos will toss anything around. I plan on doing it in MNNR only, and blank for you guys to play with.

I just need help getting it into the simulator now (textures too). Any takers? I use 3DS Max so the best I could do is export to .3DS.

One time I tried a 3DS file coming from 3D's Max and it crashed 3D Crafter, so I'm not all too sure it will work.

But if I could get it into 3D Crafter I could most defiantly get it into Railworks using Smm's old tutorial.

You can texture and export from 3DS. What is the problem?

I use 3DS Max 2012, as I got it this year through school. Can't roll back to 11.
I know how to texture it from 3DS though, I'm just not a good texture artist.

I don't think RSC would have much interest in adopting this project, but I do have a new "quick modelling" technique so I can whip out fully detailed locomotives. Perhaps I can see GP38-2s from RSC??
