Needed: Barber S-2 trucks or Blueprints.

Unread postby BNSFdude » Mon Nov 05, 2012 4:52 pm

Having taken a break from modelling the GP30, and the Fairmont being lost to my SSD crash a few months ago, I'm looking to recreate the GATX TankTrain cars. I have the main body for the tank car already made, next comes top details and hoses/grabs. But my main issue is that I need the Barber S-2 trucks. I can't seem to find plans for them ANYWHERE. !*hp*!
Can anyone be of assistance?

Note: These cars will be free once created. Since they'll be my first successful export into the game. (hopefully)

Hmm they do for reference, but not so much for Scale. I make my shapes in a Drafting program, so I doesn't help if I don't have dimensions to go by.

Yep, getting proper engineering drawings, with dimensions (including radii for the curvy bits) is the key. I couldn't find anything like that on Google.

I could put some together. How detailed do you want them? Plus, I will leave texturing up to you.
They exist everywhere. You may not see them, but they're there. Awww yeeeaaaahhhh, 20% Cooler! /)

Here are some pretty good resolution photos I took of them for photo/texture reference. Hope they can help :D
I have more, too, if you're in need.

Pretty high quality (atleast so far as you can see the springs arent 2D textured. I have gone the extra mile to include the hoses between cars that will have actual ribbing instead of a 2D effect.

Those pictures are great! I'll prolly sample them when I make the textures. Meanwhile:

Ooh, those are some nice pictures, although unfortunately they don't appear to represent the requested prototype; they appear to represent an ASF "Ride Control" truck rather than a Barber S-2. (Come to think of it, I think that truck might even be of an older 70-ton variety rather than the 100-ton variety used under most modern railcars. The 70-ton trucks can be spotted under boxcars and--I think--autoracks, which require a smaller wheel size due to height limitations.) While the two designs have been around for a while and evolved significantly, the primary spotting feature has remained basically unchanged: the "Ride Control" has a rather bulbous and more substantial "spring seat," for lack of a better word, than that of the S-2. It's also worth noting that there are multiple designs representing the S-2 brand, each manufactured by a different foundry, solely for the 100-ton roller-bearing variety.

Thanks,
Eliot
