I have put aside my steamer for a while to try to get something a little simpler into the game. A vintage Alco RS-11 diesel locomotive from the 60's.

Once finished the engine will most likely be freeware and I plan to release it in a fiction livery.

A little bit of progress on it. Working on the truck, here's the first part of the main frame, then will come the lower frame and the rest of the truck, and then the breaks and break cylinders will come next.

Later I want to animate all controls so they can be moved by the mouse and animate the doors and windows so they can open. As well as have light up gauges and a working cab light for when I start working on the cab later on.

Some more progress coming up later.

How similar were the RS11s to the RS15s?

They were very much different, actually it appears that the RS-15 didn't have a high nose version. It's the Alco RS-11 high nose I'm working on.

By the way, a little more progress, at the moment I'm working on another part of the truck. It's a very slow process shaping it out, I've been working this just about all day so far.

No such animal as an RS-15. There is an RSD-15, however. And yes, there was a high-nose version (CN, DMIR, PRR, and others).

Looks awesome. Love the old ALCO's and would be great to see running Pennsylvania RR on the Horse Shoe Curve.

Later I'll leave the repainting to the repainters, making good progress on the top of the truck frame that I'm working on, will post another screenshot in a while.

I plan to release it as only one livery which will be fiction.

Also, I just checked and the different between the RS-11 and the RSD-15 is the RS-11 had double trucks and the RSD-15 had triple trucks. I might try to do the RSD-15 high nose later, probably after I get this one into the game and running right.

Finally finished the next part of the truck, took a long time to shape it, I'll do some more work on the model tomorrow.

If I would have been able to figure out this shaping operation a while back when I first tried to start the engine, perhaps I could have got started on it a little sooner.

So, what do you think of it so far.

Perhaps later this week I might even be able to start on the body and hopefully soon test it in the game.

I had to make these same trucks for my Uboat. You need to make that outer hanger thinner, think half an inch. They were paired so you need and put another one on the other side of the frame. If I get a chance I will post a shot of how I did mine.

In the mean time look at the real deal here:

Scroll down, and you will see details of the a slightly newer version of these trucks.

About how I plan to do my fiction livery of the engine will be real dark gray with large white letters saying Chicago & New York and possibly some white pin striping, somewhat similar to the original New York Central paint schemes, but also very much different as well.

Does anyone have a real picture of a truck, what I need is a picture of what the traction motors look like and a picture of the part that joins the two parts of the truck together. As well, I need a picture of what the part that joins the truck to the body looks like exactly.

I'll probably be getting close to time to do these soon and would defiantly be easier if I knew what I was looking for and the next parts that need to be modeled.

Also, if you have any real good screen shots of the truck itself without the engine on it that would defiantly help as well.

I hope to be able to get the engine running in the game by late winter at the most and to be able to start on the cab, which will be highly detailed. I only want to use some of the best textures I can find.

Yes, but I didn't find exactly what I need. I think I'm going to do some searching on google images for more reference.

By the way, I was able to find the idle sound and the horn sound from the real engine, so now the model will be even better since the sounds on it will be from a real Alco RS-11.
