UP Choctaw Sub (Heavy WIP)

Unread postby AdmiralLeviathan » Sun Oct 07, 2012 12:09 am

Started work on this proto-lanced route this morning. I'm heavily satisfied with the fact that I only crashed once(!) early on (Also because my progress was saved before that crash). It's based off of the Union Pacific Choctaw Subdivision that ran through my hometown near Ft. Worth, Texas. The new Sherman Hill rolling stock and assets fit the location pretty well, since the only engines I saw running on that line were SD70s and ES44s, and the scenery wasn't exactly. . . pretty. So expect a lot of open expanses of fields, housing districts, and small industry.

The route itself is pretty long, it gives a decent 20 minute run (Not impressive but I'll be pulling my hair out trying to make it bigger), and it currently runs between Denton and an area near the FWWR yards just outside of Ft. Worth

Following Highway 377;

Intersection of 377 with another highway that I forgot the name of;

T-Intersection of 377 with Keller-Haslet road. My favorite railfanning spot was by the storage facility (Speaking of; are there any good assets that represent storage units in the default game or any RSC DLC? I'm aiming for also releasing this on Steam Workshop, and you should all know about the fine print about that regard)

How far do you plan on going south with this? The closest the UP comes to my location is Temple Texas.

At the moment, I don't think I'll go much farther north than Denton or much farther south than near Ft. Worth. If I decide on it, I *Might* model the old Intermodal yard and station, and possibly Tower 55 as well. But since that would add a good few extra days to the project, I doubt I'll be doing that.

Thats cool. So far I think you have the only route inside the state of Texas.

Few more images this morning. I had a few crashes that removed some progress near the FWWR yards, but so far detailing is going nicely. I should be adding details in about a week or so.

New map showing small extensions and track changes;

Denton area WIP;

RR Diamond at Old Denton Road, heavy WIP;
Image

Watagua- the park and the big church next to the McDonalds and the trailer homes. Placeholder assets;
Image

Keller again- now with more housing development;
Image

Not much to see here, just Roanoke and the freeway;
Image

Tweaked some things around Keller-Haslet, notably added large tree asset blocks and the houses on the hill;
Image

Huge shopping complex outside Roanoke, plus more freeways. Texas had a lot of those;
Image

The usual sight on the line: Coal trains powered by 3 units and being pushed by 1 in the back. I don't really remember, but I assume that the coal trains ran towards Ft. Worth loaded, then back to wherever they came from up north empty;

I think the coal unit trains are heading down through Temple Texas to either Waco, Cameron or Houston. the BNSF unit coal trains run through Temple Texas to Smithers Lake, all used for power plants. I see the empty BNSF unit trains running through Nolanville, killeen and Fort Hood west on the Lampassas subdivision, up through Amarillo and eventually back to the powder river basin.

Admiral,
How can I convince you to work southward torwards Waco and Temple?
Something like from yard to yard route.

It will take a lot of money and reference material. I never went down to those areas and I don't want to spend a long time trying to figure out track plans on Google Earth. Besides, small routes are my Forte anyway.

I don't mean to brag, but this is only a weeks worth of work, just imagine this a few weeks from now.

Very true. Are you going to have a public release of this route?

Of course. I don't show routes that I don't release, unless the file gets corrupted for some unknown reason *Glares at previous project* and I'm unable to release the route.
