Where have I been? Well, if you had seen a thread MDurdan started a while ago about his shortline, you would have noticed that I posted a few pics of my ongoing and now, almost complete project. Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you, The ALCo 'Century!'

This model is one of three of PRR's different phases of C425. Many model variants will be available. C420, C424, and C430 as well as MLW's range will be made available. Larger Centuries are in the future and have been planned for development long ago.

Many thanks go to MDurdan for providing a multitude of photos and detail shots! Thanks, man!

Aidan

Superb modelling! I love the attention to detail, and the nice, smooth curves on things like the windows.

Oh my. I can't wait for a grimy and rusty version in CN colors.
Make sure it emits lots of black smoke!

This, and FAs and FP9s are the locos I loved when I was young.
I even used to sneak into the cabs at night in the yard.

Question: where did you get measurements for the AAR type B trucks?
I've been scouring the net for scale drawings and found none.

Thank you everyone for your compliments. As for the measurements, I just used 1:36 scale drawings from Trainiax.net over a 2D face that is roughly the same size of the prototype, and draw out from there. I also used data from thedieselshop.com for other measurements such as total width, length, height and wheel size. It was wheel size that gives me other data about the trucks, just from looking at photos and judging scale. I also am being a major rivet counter, and putting in as many details as technologically possible. I will be going through a poly reduction phase within the next few weeks, and exporting in a method that makes sure no parts are touching that would cause face division. This way the model will have as little polygons as possible. I also have many great cab photos from the prototypes and will be integrating many of the systems. I will be learning LUA, just so I can use advanced scripting. The model will be free of course, as I believe that the current mentality of relying on things having to be payware. I plan on also having multiple detail versions for people with slower computers, so everyone can easily drive it. I hope to have this thing done in the near future. Thank you everyone once again.

I've spent a long time looking too.I think somewhere there's a maintenance manual with some components in it like the main frames & a cross section, but there aren't any of the complete GSC truck ( you might have more luck searching for GSC than AAR ). You can work a lot out from pics though, and don't forget there's at least Alco & GE versions. Mostly the springs & the shape of the outer frame from what I can make out.

Trainax/Willstrainart drawings look quite good for outlines, but I've noticed a lot of details are nowhere near correct so probably noty a good idea to rely on them too much.

Thanks. I guess I'll do like everyone and settle for measurements from pictures.
I even searched for Dofasco trucks, because Dofasco used to cast the truck parts.

Oh yeah, I know. I always check pictures of the real thing ridiculously meticulously. Trust me.

Hey you guys, If it helps at all, I took some extremely large photos of the AAR Type B trucks on my last visit to a railyard. If you'd like them for your references, just send me a pm, and I'll send them to you. There huge.

Just throwing that out there.

@Simer4 ....awesome work, Sir! Image

love it! *!greengrin!*

speaking of the MLW version, will you include some of the widecab units? (M420W, and possibly a M630W? and possibly the HR series?)

by the way, how are those hoppers comming along !*roll-laugh*!
