Still very much a WIP. I haven't even touched the other side yet:

But, it's a start.

Well, unfortunately I've hit two really big snags on this one. RSC seems to have gone out of their way to make this locomotive a huge pain to repaint. **!!bang!!**

1. Due to the way the textures are set up, I can't use the BNSF SD75I as the base. It's pretty obvious to me that this locomotive was really rushed through production. !*not-ok*!

2. Instead of the SD75I, I have to use the Santa Fe SD75M as the base. The biggest problem here is that the SD75M is set up for 3 digit autonumbering and since CN SD75s have 4 digit road numbers, I have to make the road numbers on these static. !*hp*! **!!bang!!** !*not-ok*!

I'm really sorry to everyone who was hoping for CN SD75s with autonumbering but due the way this locomotive has been set up, it just isn't possible. We'll just have to wait and see when (and if) RSC will do an official CN version.

But I'm still going to push forward and finish this one. So here's where progress sits for today:

Yeah copying the geo file didn't really help. It still doesn't fix the problem that it will only accept 3 digit road numbers.

So, if the number is the only problem then turn off auto numbering and static number a few.

I wish I had more time on my hands. Kali has an awesome LUA and child objects that would allow us to working around this problem. Except I think the numbers would them be too small (it was made for rolling stock not locos).

using the ATSF SD75M would still be incorrect for the CN version because the M uses a high roof light, where as the CN 75I's have a nose light.

Well I've decided to toss this project into the scrap heap. Mainly due to how much of a pain it is to repaint this locomotive and the fact that I can't make it prototypical.

Sorry guys. But unless someone else wants to try and tackle this one, we'll just have to wait for RSC to do an official CN version.

It only matters to the rivet counters that it be "exactly like" the original.

Not that rivet counters don't have their place, but most of us are not rivert counters. If you can't do an exact copy, then acknowledge that and do it anyway.

If you can finish a workable version, share it, with a strongly stated caveat that this captures the ESSENCE of the CN loco though it is not an exact version for the reasons you state. Anyone who complains should then be slapped with a trout.

At the least you could say "This is my imagined version if CN were to buy some surplus BNSF SD75s...." No different from imaginary routes or semi-prototype routes. Those who obsess over handrail placement and other essentially trivial things can just not use your work and wait for an "official" RSC version which will likely also be wrong in some aspect.

What you had completed looked excellent, BTW.

I agree, no one forces anyone to D/L anything. If someone doesn't care for something then let them do it better not criticize others. I endorse Railbards comments.

Actually I haven't bought the DLC. Not sure if I will. I'm using Heavy Chevys reskin of the SD70 to look like the CN SD75I.
