RWA DonationsPack TS2012 Update

Unread postby GreatNortherner » Fri Mar 23, 2012 7:22 am

Hi,

Finally -- the RWA Donationware Pack TS2012 updates are coming! I'm applying all the latest tweaks and enhancements to these models, so they will work in TS2012 without any issues and also look a bit better too. Most of the changes have already been done, I'm now going through the all of the models, re-exporting and setting up the cars and the NW2, and trying to make sure that they stay fully backwards compatible.

A little preview:

I have done several repaints, will I need to redo them?

Most likely, you probably will.

Hi,

No, actually you probably will not need to rework them. The original RWA models were already fairly up to date, so no major changes are needed. The textures can be carried over without changing anything, just drop in the new Geo files and the updated wheels/trucks textures and all should work fine.

So here's the next one that's all done, PCF 50' boxcars.

2 questions:
1- What are those tweaks and enhancements? I've seen several such announcements but they never specify.
2- What's with the white color on the coupler in your screenshot?

Hi,

1- What are those tweaks and enhancements? I've seen several such announcements but they never specify.

Specifically, the update does the following to the cars:
- new trucks/wheels sets with more detail and lower polycount
- changed spec settings to address the "ultra-gloss" thing in TS2012, redid some normal maps
- deleted stencil shadows
- changed autonumbers to TrainDecal.fx
- on some models I also improved the LODs
- the NW2 will follow the standards of Dick's newer kit models I believe

Now that all cars are all done I can confirm that there aren't any changes to the main textures and BIN files. Though a few new textures have been added, like the decal_number textures.

The white color on the coupler was just one of the "RW2 legacy" graphics anomalies (too much spec). This has been addressed.

By the way, here are the remaining models. Just the NW2 still left to go.

Looks great.
By the way, Foote Forward's 7 scenarios for the MCSA 1920s route use the RWA cars, NW2 and F7 and they are awesome (and funny).
After you finish the upgrade I will probably do they all over again.

How do we get the updates pack if we already have the old one do we need to donate again?

I'll be sending out an email with the new link to the updated package to everyone that has already donated. Probably tomorrow.
I'll be using the same email address that was used when donating. !*salute*!

A second donation isn't required - but....... *!!wink!!* *!greengrin!*

I've sent out emails to every email address I had in my records for those that donated and received the rollingstock package.
I used the email address that was used at Pay Pal when you donated.

Oh yea! The updated rollingstock package is now available for those that haven't got it yet. *!!wink!!*

Thanks for the update, Hawk. I don't like the look of most older converted MSTS assets under TS12 anymore, so your update to TS12 was most welcome.

I would like to reletter some equipment, mainly the locos and the passenger car into "Ronceverte & Western Alleghanies" or "Ronceverte, Whitcomb & Anthony", haven't really made my mind up yet. Written below the windowsill of the car would be "The Greenbrier Line" and "Hawk & Badger Rail Excursions" and perhaps even "www.rwa.com".
Both fictious road names have a good ring I think, for use as a tourist passenger excursion service on Tori's COARW.
More specifically on the Durbin Branch, the former C&O Greenbrier Sub, to connect the main line to Anthony, my future site of the "Wild Western Virginia" tourist town and home of the Bauer Logging Museum. A bit like Cass Scenic Railroad and some general 1880-1920's Wild West themed tourist town combined, just for the fun of being able to use all that oldtimer DLC and to give the COARW more operating challenge and entertainment value. Bob Artim's NE owns the Durbin Branch in my fictious world and provides freight service linking the COARW with Ma. and Pa. beyond Anthony.:D

Are there templates available that will help me in relettering your pack, provided I have your permission?

There is a repainting PDF in the package which goes over what you are allowed to do, and who to get permission from.

There is a repaint kit, but for the life of me I can't seem to find where it gets install to (its been several months since I last used it).
