SP Alco C-415

Unread postby Johnybotto » Sat Jan 28, 2012 4:33 pm

This is just something I was messing around with in Blender this morning. Don't look for this soon, I'm still learning, but it is something I would like to see in the game.
Any ideas on how to do the geometry for the nose where it transitions from the round corner up into the head light assembly would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Today I decided to try and get a start on the most difficult part for me, the trucks. I have profile drawings but no end drawings for these trucks, so I don't know how deep they are supposed to be. I have done it all from photos. Any input on these would be most welcome. And if anyone knows where I can find a good set of drawings for these trucks (aar type B I believe) that info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

John

Hello CSXGP38-2,
Thanks for looking in.

This is my first attempt at a locomotive so I will be happy to get it running. After that I don't think it would be too much trouble to do the low and medium cab versions. The SP units had the high cab. I will try to do a clean job of the UVs so repainters can have their way with it once it is done. But for now, poly count and the basic model are my main concern.

Sorry, no progress the last few days. Still trying to locate drawings for the trucks. And then it's back to school on Monday. So it may be a while before I get back to it, but it's not forgotten.

To start, use the 4 feet 8 1/2 inches between wheels, as that's standard track gauge. The only other suggestion I have is to locate an old Alco unit with similar trucks and measure the demensions.

Here is all I could find on the AAR type B.
It's pretty amazing that there is no scale drawing of that ubiquitous truck anywhere to be found.

That is an awesome 3d render of the truck! Thank you for supplying the images, they will help, Chacal! I agree, the plans are harder to find than on would think. I even contacted the Alco Historical and Technical Society and they have no plans. I may have to find a loco that has then and see if I can't get some basic measurements.
