Working on the Burlington Zephyr for Railworks.

Once I finish it I plan to make it freeware.

I've got this far with the model, so I might as well finish it.

And here's the real thing.

Some more progress,

Getting closer to finishing the body then it's time to start on the trucks.

One item off my to-do list, then!
I visited the real thing in Chicago, she's a nice-looking old lady.

I'll build the cab, but if you want Charcal I'll let you build the cab if you want, the train will be freeware anyways.

You'd probably be able to do a better job at cab modeling then myself. I have some cab photo's for reference.

No no don't worry!
Currently I'm still learning, and starting work on my first engine.
Who knows when I'll finish it?

The biggest problem will be figuring out how to link the train cars to the engine since all of the train cars were connected by a truck, not a cuppler and in real life they didn't unlink like some.

Also, I think the train cars were powered as well, not sure, but another problem will be making the train cars truck powered and leaving them in the rolling stock selection instead of listing them in the engines section.

I'll have to look them up and then will know for sure if the train cars were powered or not.

Today, once I get home from work I'll do some more work on the engine, perhaps start on the 3d cab.

I'm sure I have seen something about that during my research. Maybe it was at UKtrainsim, maybe in the RW dev docs, I don't remember. Also look at the european stock in RW, maybe they have a train like that already.

The first progress shots of the Burlington Zephyr 3d cab.

Some more progress of the cab. And the real thing was just as tight and uncomfortable.

And a shot of the cab of a real train of the model of the Burlington Zephyr, one of the only survivors.

Wow! I hate you
This is coming out quite well! I hate you
Modeling seems easy for you. I wish it was for me too. I hate you
Keep up the good work! I hate you

For one, I use sketchup to do some of my main modeling. For this project will have to do eyein's trick and use Meshlab to lower the poly level at the end.

Yes, although the poly budget is quite high for an engine, especially such a nice-looking one should be detailed a lot. Since the Zephyr was a very short train, the total number of polys should be easy to keep under budget.

I plan to after this make the baggage car, the coach, and the observation car. Unfortunately, they are the only train cars that would work with the engine.

I found out what kind of engine it had, a Winton 201 engine. However I haven't been able to find a sound for the Winton 201, if anyone has a sound of a Winton 201 that will help even more.

If anyone happens to have all the sounds from the zephyr that will help even more for the final release. Unfortunately, that's very unlikely to find any original sounds to suit it so I'll probably be setting it to the default F7 sounds.

Just found a picture of a relative of the Burlington Zephyr, the Silver Chafler.

I think I'm going to re-edit it and make the train this one, that will make it where it could be used on other trains, instead of how the Burlington Zephyr was set up.

In my mind, this one is of a better design for trucks.

Good idea. I hope you won't model the huge ugly headlight though.
