Twin Cities Division - BNSF Railroad

Dakota Branch takes from Mitchell, SD and spurs off in Canton, SD to head north to Sioux Falls, SD or heads south to Sioux City, IA. DAIR heads south to Sioux City and all 99% of all other loads head up to Sioux Falls, SD; which in this route is the main headquarters. From Sioux Falls, you can head east to Garretson, SD or you can head north to Madison, SD or to DAIRs headquarters in Dell Rapids. Recently, this branch has been seeing about 2-5 trains daily. There is also a track that heads out to Ellis And Eastern Railroad. And on this route, there is not many grades. There is a ton of history within this small yard.

"The Great Northern Railway (GNR), once one of the premier railroad systems in the nation, was the dream of entrepreneur James J. Hill. Beginning in 1878 with a small bankrupt St. Paul railroad, Hill developed a huge rail network that he named the "Great Northern". It included the northernmost transcontinental rail line to the Pacific Ocean.

City officials enticed the GNR to Sioux Falls in 1888 by guaranteeing $77,000 for the purchase of depot grounds and right - of - way. After the new GNR Willmar - to - Sioux Falls extension arrived, the town could boast that it was served by five major railroad lines.

In 1893 the GNR added track mileage from Sioux Falls absorbing two R. F. Pettigrew inspired short lines: the tiny seven mile intercity South Sioux Falls Rapid Transit line and the 58 mile Sioux Falls, Yankton & South Western Railroad. Added in 1916 was the South Dakota Central, a 103 mile pike linking Sioux Falls and Watertown.

The Great North merged with two other railroads in 1970 to become the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway."

A little history about it.

Well, here goes my third attempt to start this route. My last route derailed due to a lightning strike killing my computer. Now I have made a few back-ups already from now, only been working on this within the past three days. I'm actually using some assests from the Miami route so I'm not sure if I will be able to release it; just have to wait until I get to that point. Which is still quite a ways down the road.

I live beside the dakota branch. Down in Sioux City, the DAIR has their own yard (former milwakee if I'm not mistaken), where they join up with the BNSF's yard. Also, the DAIR has a few ex. SP SD39's, which I thought was pretty cool. Now, since I go to school in Sioux falls, it's pretty neat to see the DAIR serving the rock quarry, as well as a few other facilities. The BNSF has a huge yard in sioux city, a decent sized yard in sioux falls, and plenty of trains in both cities!

Yea I see DAIR coming through town quite a bit, they actually just came through two days ago about eight o'clock. I've see the Sioux City, IA yard and that is a monster compared to our yard in town here. I actually did a few repaints for DAIR some time ago on this thread. However, since lightning struck over the summer and lost my entire route and repaints, forgot to back everything up; have to start from scratch all over again. At least this way I can fix some error's I know I did on my route and repaints before. Eventually, I do plan to go down to Sioux City.

Off Topic: You can see some of my videos on YouTube of DAIR and local yard crews in town.

My apologies if this is getting off topic. But, I caught this in Sioux City last year. In the BNSF yard near the grain silos. About 2 or 3 miles away, the DAIR has their own yard.

If I posted this is the wrong section please inform me. I thought that it had to relate to the route so I posted it here. Just a quick scene of what is currently done.
