American Roads

Ever since the 3DTrains has gone down, the various ScaleRoad packs have unfortunately no longer been available. There aren't that many free offerings out there for a replacement at the moment, so I figured I'd try my hand at doing a set of roads. All the two lane versions I plan to include are at a state where I'd say they're done right now. The to-do list is as follows:

- Sidewalks
- 4 lane roads
- Divided highways (4, 6, 8 lanes)
- Signs
- Decals
- Cars

Still trying to decide on other things to be added. I'm debating doing a 1950s version of the pack (white center lines, yellow stop signs, that kind of thing), but I don't know how much use it would actually get. I plan to include all of the source files for the project either in the download or as a separate one, so it wouldn't be too hard in theory for a route builder to do this if I decide not to.

excited to see the sidewalks. Game has a lack of proper roads/sidewalks imo

I've been using the SR roads on the route I'm building. If you get these done it would be great and I'll switch over in a New York minute.

Hopefully these don't disappoint; I've tried to go for a varied selection. Left to right: pavers, herringbone stone, cobblestone, asphalt, brick, concrete.

I'm also doing a set of stretchy asset cubes with these same textures so you can fill weird gaps, make plazas, do parking lots, etc.

The one thing you'll have to be a little careful of is that these aren't perfect 1:1 replacements. I've gone for "Wide" and "Narrow" versions of the roads, both without sidewalks, over the SR "Urban" and "Rural" styles. Sidewalks will have to be re-added by hand if you do a blanket swap. It's pretty easy with the offset tool (4.5 - 5.0 m is about right for the wide versions), but it's still something to be mindful of. When I get around to putting together the manual together I'll have a more complete list of tips and tricks for using these.

Thanks for the kind words :D. A last effort for tonight is something I feel is an underutilized scenic object type: stretchy object blocks, or as TS calls them, textured asset blocks. Basically, it's just a block that can be dragged out to any rectangular dimensions and the texture repeats seamlessly across it.

My route is almost entirely built with scale rail assets. One thing I would love to see is a variety of roads with deep berms that will look good on uneven terrain, and across RR tracks. There are various payware roads, but little freeware. Everything you are working on is looking good!

Its nice to see developers still in the works for Train Simulator. I know we have assets that can get us by with third-party route building etc.. but it's really nice to see those involved with their assets they share. Thank you Railfan722
