A little something I've been working on. It's the E8 being restored at the Tennessee Valley Rail Road.

Looks like your font might be a little off!

Luckily, I may be able to offer assistance - this page has an accurate recreation of the Southern Ry. font, totally free :D :

Take a look!

Otherwise, paint looks good so far

It's a very useful font for the special logos, but if you want it directly from the source the font is actually Highway Gothic Expanded or some flavor thereof. Not sure exactly how so many railroads decided to pick that font specifically, but it's what the N&W used for all their lettering as well. The pre-Chessie B&O/C&O paint scheme when they were both under the same ownership also used it for cab numbering, as do Norfolk Southern and the Connecticut Department of Transportation today among others.

That's all really nice you experts but that O dern sure doesn't look like the O in the pictures of 6914.

Yes - both the Highway Gothic and Interstate families should do the trick for the SOUTHERN lettering as well. However, the numbers in those families are different (compare how the 9 hangs in Highway vs the Southern font I posted for instance).

I recall there was another font related to the Interstate family that had both the appropriate letters and numbers as well, but it's been years and a computer or two since I did NS/SOU repaints and its name eludes me.

Anyway, check em out Buzz. A little crafty mix-n-match might be required, but I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the results.

Seems fine to me based on photos from the rest of the Southern's diesel fleet.

I'd probably go with a mix of the two fonts, the numerals from Southern_D are much closer but I prefer the cleaner letter shapes from Highway Gothic Expanded; the S in particular is pretty noticeable.

Maybe my eyes are deceiving me but the O looks distinctively oval to me and the examples you give show a round O. No?

So I finally found a full side shot on a U-Tube video and the O is round. Re-do in process.

Looks great Buzz! Can you also do a version with dynamic numbering?

Harry

Yes if you don't want the numbers under the cab.
