Repaint Projects finally once again in progress

Unread postby hobo1960 » Sat Oct 30, 2021 9:12 pm

Good evening, all.

I've been unable to work on repaints for a long while but have now once again climbed back into the saddle and have targeted some projects that I have longed to complete; and which more importantly are GOING to Get Completed!

To start off, I have begun with:

- a collection of Express Service boxcars I like.
- a series of repaints started for older tank cars.

Finally, I've gotten back to working through some passenger cars, especially the CSX OCS and hopefully Conrail and several others.

Stay tuned -- and more importantly encourage me and keep me focused if you're interested. :D

Here's a few screenshots of my work this weekend. Please be kind, I'm only learning and still have a long way to go but I'm rather pleased with my results so far. Obviosuly these are still WIP...

I think I finally figured out how to eliminate the auto-numbers. Of course, that means I propb need to create a few hard number repaints for each car but that's ok.

Here's a couple almost done today:

Got a few more going last night.

This week of painting has been a rewarding and lessons-learned experience too.

Note to self -- use layers idiot! Doah! This after I realized that several of the schemes require some tweaking as the model is stretching textures near the bottom -- something only noticed after certain schemes were applied...sigh

Creating a map of textures is a must! It's a tedious process but once completed, it helps to know where things can be painted and where not.

Anyway, here's a few more shots of my latest cars..

All require some tweaking but will soon start sharing.

Plus, layers make weathering a lot easier.

Awesome repaints BTW.

Yes! We Have Some Bananas!

Unread postby hobo1960 » Tue Nov 09, 2021 4:05 pm

First of all, thank you for supportive posts above. It really helps to motivate. !!*ok*!!

I know that my style of repainting is not for everyone but I am pleased with my progress and with new techniques I am teaching myself.

Now, about my subject line... *!rolleyes!*

I was getting frustrated with some issues on the boxcars and tankcars [just temporary setback hopefully] so I took a few evenings to tinker with another model and have started some fun repaints which will include a variety of schemes -- Wood and Steel Reefers (specifically Michael's cars from the BLE addon but I see that they are the same as in a variety of other addons as well -- more details on that later).

So without further ado, I present...

Banana cars...Illinois Central ran long train of reefers filled with bananas from the docks in New Orleans to Chicago yards.
