Horn Lake Rail

Well graduation is closing in and school issued laptop turn in will follow suite soon thereafter, so two weeks ago I put my Kaukaunee Western on hold until my personal laptop is repaired. In those two weeks I decided to explore a venture inspired by the surrounding area of a small place my family has on a lake in the northwoods of Wisconsin. Two weeks later, I have something that looks alright (the parts that have scenery at least) and is functional to a degree. I have a half week or so left to work on it and after tomorrow, I will have no more schoolwork to worry about so I will be able to put serious time on it. Hopefully I'll have enough of a route to release a beta of sorts.

Looks pretty cool to me, keep up the work dont get stressed out,I did and now i may be abandoning my route x project its looks good but getting it to work things like ai trains,portals,consist instructions,ext ext can be very stressing i think im just trying to learn to much too fast **!!bang!!**

If you find that you can't finish it on time I would suggest you save it and your other route to a separate memory stick. Which can be found for sale at walmart, some pretty cheap in price. They also call them a cruiser, it plugs into your usb port. That way you will at least be able to save your route before you have to remove it from your school laptop.

Once you plug it in it will open up a screen, you will first find your files, then copy them all to your memory stick so when you get your laptop back you will still have your original route.

And I'm just waiting for a stronger 19th century locomotive before finishing my route. Cecil's 4,4,0 and 2,8,0 really aren't strong enough to get up those grades with a load of cars before being forced to a complete halt.

Double headers man! heck, even triple headers, and yeah I've been backing up and i'll be putting my entire railworks directory on my buddy's huge external hard drive come Friday, my flash drives aren't big enough to hold all the crap I've got! Hopefully I'll be able to release a beta soon, then finish this, and my KWR over the summer once my personal computer is fixed, I'm gonna have to replace pretty much everything but the screen in it though. Might just get a new computer :P

Shi, between your other ficticious route and this one, you have talent that I could never match. Ever. Find a way to back it all up. Doesn't Steam have that function? Or it won't because it's your own creation? Try and just backup your Railworks folder to the Steam cloud. I've never done that, I have a 500Gb external USB connected backup drive. I don't quite trust "The Cloud" yet. Your work is amazing. I am astounded at all the new RW talent that is popping up. Just outstanding. !!*ok*!! !*brav*!

I can't connect to steam :/ I had to buy RW again today even though I already have it, cause for some reason when I copied my Railworks directory from one computer to the one I'm on now, apparently I screwed up the connection to Steam but oh well, I'll figure it out

thanks for the compliments though! I'm gettin there, just gotta figure out the logistics of making scenarios work and such but here's some new shots with the new GP9

You can also do it how some might, release it as it stands as a beta at the point it is now and continue on with it later. It's looking great, Railworks needs a good route to help promote it.

How did you accomplish such a wide variation of trees in your scenes? I don't see evidence of copy/paste... It looks as if you planted every single one individually??

Tori - I rarely have areas big and/or flat enough to use the clusters, so most trees are individually placed yes, but had to use a few clusters here and there as to save the asset count. It's hard to replicate the coniferous/deciduous mixed forests of Wisconsin with the clusters as it is, so I took the time to make sure the trees were properly dispersed I guess you could say I somehow have been able to keep all my tiles under that 1000 asset limit thus far....i was actually debating renaming the thread to "So Many Trees". Fortunately, I now have another week to work on it, so jpeters- I may have something by next week with enough functionality to release.

Some new WIP shots. Just getting started where there is the main yard and an interchange track with the class one railroad. (you can see the mainline in the background of the second shot). Tryin' my hand at street runnin'! I've decided to work on this end for a while and then work towards the middle.

Making progress in the main town, which will be known as Townsend, based loosely off a real town that the ol' CNW Laona line used to go through. It's an ATV trail now *!sad!* The round trip for a passenger excursion is 17.22 miles, including the locomotive decoupling from the cars and going around a wye. But here's a shot of the town as it is now, I'm really enjoyin building it but I keep hitting a brick wall of creativity. Anyone got suggestions on what I kind of things I could put into this "up north" route?

well it seems that you are missing 1 important thing from this route, FIELDS! FARMLAND! LOCAL INDUISTRYS!

add some elevators, fields, and small induistrys such as depots or a shipping dock.
