MRL SD40-2 Operation Lifesaver

Unread postby wlenz781 » Thu Dec 12, 2019 1:05 pm

I am creating some repaints of the SS SD40-2 in the MRL Operation Lifesaver livery. There will be four engines in this pack. Two will be clean (numbers 263 and 264), and two will be weathered (numbers 262 and 265). Here is the progress of the weathered version. It has been faded and rust added. In the lead is the current MRL SD40 from the library to show as a comparison.

Those look nice however I have never seen a photo of any MRL loco that weathered.

Here is how they look without the weathering. I need to darken the colors anyways. I will leave two of them weathered.

I hope you have painted your weathering in an extra layer in your graphics program as I mean, it'd be better if you reduced the weather to 20-50%.
They look really brilliant, my deepest respect. **!!bow!!**

I like them like myself. Used, abused and a bit weatherd.

That may be but in real life 95% of the MRL locos are shiny and clean.

Yes, the weathering is in multiple layers. I might reduce it just a little. Two of these units will come in the clean and shiny. That way if you want you can have either. I think that is better than releasing four clean and then another set of weathered units.

you know if you want to share what you are happy with there are some people out there who appreciate you efforts. I like I what I see there. I say share what ya got and those who want it will download. My repaints aren't perfect either in fact this might be one of mine your are working with. Life is too short not to enjoy what you do for the joy of doing it. I say go for it and share what you got. It looks good to me. !!howdy!! **!!2cents!!**

Pete, I was inspired by your repaint and wanted to expand on them and do another variant that MRL ran, the Operation Lifesaver. I am still working on theses, but between the holidays and a horrible cold, my progress has been halted. I will finish and release these as soon as I can.

I liked what you are doing gives some variety to the MRL roster and people can choose what they want to use. I will be among the first to download. I always make the locos I like then share in case someone likes them as well. !!howdy!!
