GE 44-ton Phase-I, Milwaukee Road

Thought I should post this while the Steam sale is still in progress. It's based on the GE 44t Phase-I model that currently only comes with the VNH Springfield route: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3259 ... ute_AddOn/

The Phase-I appears to be the closest configuration to the three GE models that were operated by the Milwaukee Road. Note; the stand-alone GE 44's offered by the Steam Store are a different model (grill in front). I chose to retain the dynamic numbering to minimize the file size, and because it was relatively easy to customize the existing numbers (this time). There is a bit of weathering, but nothing distinctive, which would lend a repetitive appearance when used in pairs or groups. I left the coupler textures as-is, since it is a shared texture with other models, hence the primer-grey; although I could probably darken them a bit and include as an optional installation. There is shared texture with one of the cab-door vents (orange) and a couple of the wiper mounts (should be black), but painting the little mounts black resulted in a large portion of the orange vents displaying a big black square; so I went with the lesser of two evils. If you look real close at the window behind the horn, you can see a tiny orange speck; thats the wiper mount. I still have to find the electrical receptacle and try to tone-down it's jet-black color, or perhaps paint it orange. I recall trying to find it on a previous repaint, but came up empty-handed, so no guarentees. Funny how these little details can stall a project dead in it's tracks, but hopefully I can find the offending texture this time, and upload to the library by the weekend. Eventually, I may do a later version with modern logo and numbers.

This version (with the older logo and numbers) is intended to compliment the Milwaukee trackage featured in the upcoming Skykomish-Everett extension to the Cascadian route: viewtopic.php?f=80&t=20647

That’s why I’ve been so acomidating on the E8. I think I have located all the mystery parts pretty much.

Found the aforementioned missing textures at the bottom right corner of the "parts" file, and painted a red cap with accompanying shadow for a fake 3D effect; still don't know for sure if it's an electrical receptacle, or the fuel-filler pipe. Research photos for these little guys are very scarce, since they weren't exactly "movie stars" during their working days. Mostly I find photos of scale models and try to blend elements of both worlds, since I never got to see the Milwaukee's 44 tonners in action; only the big road diesels and electrics. I also redefined some panel-lines, adjusted and weathered the "high voltage" stencils, applied some aged white paint to the step edges; I think it's just about finished. Still have to do the accompanying low-res textures; then comes the dreaded read-me file and doing the screen grabs for the d/l page. Should be available for the weekend...

Yay! Thank you very much for this repaint, it looks beautiful. Time to dust off the Great Falls route then to give it some on-track action. !*brav*!

Thanks Michael!

Just uploaded an additional version featuring the later logo and numbering...

MILW_GE44_02.jpg

Had to go just a little off-center (toward the front of the loco) with the numbers and logo, due to the original 4-digit spacing of the dynamic numbering; placed a numeral "3" in the first-digit position and alpa'd it out (invisible), since the actual road-numbers were limited to 990, 991, and 992.

Cheers! !!howdy!!

Good Morning:

Speaking of the Great Falls route, is that a finished project or just a little practice for real route building. I always had a lot of fun with that route.
