Cabeese for upcoming B&LE Route

Unread postby ozinoz » Sun Feb 18, 2018 3:28 am

I have been working on a series of cabeese (is that even a word? What is the plural of caboose !*don-know!* ) for the upcoming B&LE route to populate the yards and to run on the back of the AI trains on the lines of the other roads. At present there is NKP, NYC, B&O & Erie.

Are they accurate - NO Way!! I have sampled a few pics I have found to try and match the caboose red as well as the NYC brown. I am still working on the numbering, but am not hopeful there. These are a reskin of the caboose from the RWA Lakeside Route, so obviously you will need that. If there is any interest, I will upload these ~ at least for myself I felt the trains on the other roads needed something bringing up the rear. :D There is already a Pennsy one in HSC, but I may still attempt a new one. May also put out some with a little weathering. If there is any interest, I will look at doing another set based on Dick Cowans original B&O set from Britkits, which is a centre cupola 2-2 window (see the B&O one at the back) as opposed to the 1-3 window. Please let me know if anybody is interested...

There is some disagreement on what constitutes the proper plural form of the word "caboose." Similar words, like goose (pluralized as "geese") and moose (pluralized as "moose"), differ. The most common pluralization of caboose is "cabooses," with some arguing it should remain "caboose".

And yes as far as I am concerned there is interest.

I like where you are headed with this......

Pre-WWI, most all caboose (moose) where wooden in various combinations. Post WWI, they began the transition to steel, first with just the frames, and then complete cars. So, any of the variations shown above would work. We have a lot of caboose (moose) available in DLC that would be appropriate for the Steam Era and a couple of freeware versions. If your looking for broad availability, then the freeware versions are the way to go. Remember too, there is a period wooden caboose included with the route as well which could be a candidate. I like Michael’s B&O freebie and GN version for the period, but then, that’s just me..... there’s also the caboose in the cab-forward pack, GN and BO Wagon pack, and others as well. I’d stay away from anything approaching Pullman-Standard-like (PS) as they didn’t exist until 1930 and later...

Edit: Don’t forget the B&O assets in the Kingwood Route.......

Thanks - I will get these bundled up and uploaded soon. I think I will wait on the release of the route itself for the centre cupola versions; that way everybody will have the base asset. Just when I was starting to get into teh repainting, all the free time I had has evaporated as I am employed again. The break was good while it lasted, even if it only was a few weeks.

Roll on route release, although not sure when I will get the time to enjoy it now...
