GE 44 Tonner - Repaints - A learning project

After spending some time with the paint templates, I decided to take on a bit more of a challenge and learn how to break down and repaint a standard engine.

For the project, I choose the DTM GE44 Tonner - I've always had a bit of a soft spot for it, and I figured it was a simple enough model to not give me too many issues.
It's made up of 3 main textures - Chassis, Cab, Hood. Since 1) this was a bit of a learning project and 2) I knew I wanted to make a few repaints of this, I've been trying to do this by using masks, greyscale templates, layers, etc. All I can say is it can not be understated how much easier having these templates premade makes life. Having to break down something as simple as the GE44 has taken me hours of false starts and I'm still not sure I've got things properly setup. I'm assuming that there are easier ways to go about repaints - I can't imagine having to do this for every single one, but I could be wrong.

But it is progressing.

Very interesting. Will this template be made available to the masses?

Yes, please publish the templates.

I'll make sure I publish the template. There's a few spots that do need to be cleaned up (mostly a few spots where the masks don't match up cleanly) and I am adding to it as I go along, but once I finish the repaint, I'll have hopefully caught most of the issues.

Added in the striping this evening (and redid the weathering layers).

Tweaked the weathering (some more) and cleaned up a few rough spots.
I tried to save the template into a PSD, but it unfortunately collapsed the entire thing, so it's only available as a pspimage file for now.

Links are probably good.

I've tried to make the various layer names and groupings relatively self-explanatory.

Thanks for these. Am trying to see if Gimp will convert them (tried Photoshop), I don't have PSP loaded.

Would it be okay if I convert them to PhotoShop format and post?

More formats the better. If you have a way to convert them to a layered Photoshop style, please do and share.

There are no layers on the pspimage file

There are, but I suspect it's a version thing. And opening it in paint.net is causing it to show up as flat. I can play around with it to some extent to get it to do some layers, but doing so kills the grouping data. But that may still be useful.

See if you can open this - It's a psd format file for the cab

I went ahead and reworked all of the templates to use strictly layers rather than groups and checked them against GIMP. You lose a little bit of the granularity I had set up, but they still seem to work fairly well and can be tweaked by the individual as needed.

I cannot get this to work. I tried downloading from this post and from the library, followed the instructions, but when I go to load it in a scenario, it shows up in the list but no object places, and it doesn't even do that thing where it loads but it's invisible. Any idea what I'm missing?
