TTUX Frontrunner

Unread postby thebigroyboyski » Sun Oct 04, 2015 7:15 am

I've had this on the back burner for a while but i'm finally getting some free time to get it finished.
The model is of the notoriosly terrible 2 axle Frontrunner.
The Frontrunner is one of the first spine cars and it's chassis design was eventually the basis for the articulated spine cars you see today.
They were also an experiment by using the popular in Europe twin axle lay out. Unfortunatly the American rails at the time were not as smooth as the European ones.
This combined with the light weight and 28" wheels led to a lot of derailments.
From what i have read the SP wouldn't even allow them on it's track. Choosing instead to unload them at the interchange sidings and put the trailers on standard 89' flat cars and send them back the way they came.
The model itself it's based on an early model with the European leaf spring suspension.
The modeling is about 99% done with mostly just the paperwork side of things and textures to get finished. Then it's fine tune the LODs as they are used a lot.

Coming along nicely! Have you put any thought to which trailer loads you will use for this?

Not yet. They are limited to smaller trailers upto (I think) 45'.
Initially i was thinking of just linking them to the RCAP trailers and the 28' pups at first before making some 80s-90s trailer models of my own.
Because the hitch is non retractable they never ran with containers.

While searching for containers I came along these trailers that should fit your car:

A few more small details added tonight and a basic texture just to get it game ready.
I need to work out how to build a chain now for the brakewheel *!sad!*
