Railworks America

Anyone remember the old CP Rail coal and sulphur unit? I am looking for the model in Railworks and would love to see the cars. the car looks like this:

They typically come in red and black variants of the tricolor livery and the sultran are black with yellow lettering,CP Rail had sulphur cars as well they have sulphur services only stenciled onto the side. Anyone willing to try these out would be much appreciated. I grew up watching them go by on the Windermere Subdivision all the time. It's a shame that CP scrapped the majority of them.

I totally forgot about the Procor gondolas I found an image from an old add on for MSTS but these are the cars I am talking about.

Only if they were available for Railworks it be perfect for the Canadian Mountain Passes route but this will of course set it in the 70's to 80's era. But they used the cars well into the nineties as well. not sure if they are doable but I'd love to see them in Railworks.

I would love to see these too, but with their limited scope we might be waiting a while for somebody to take this project on. These and some action red SD40-2's would make a great combo.

I used to see the coal units all the time and those were the cars they pulled through the 90's till the trinities replaced them. I live in the center of the Windermere sub and used to see the cars pulled by beaver badges and flags during that time. Plus if they were to make the cars they could make the rotary dumping machinery that were used to unload the cars. The cars were what they called rotary gondolas, they had rotary knuckles that allowed them to be dumped without uncoupling the car first. Then they could be loadable models saving them time making an empty and loaded variant. They would be loaded much like the trinities do. So then if someone wants they could make a fictional coal or sulphur route with them. CN and BC rail had some too but they were Hawker Siddley ones with the ribbed ends which I seen CP use too. Just thought I'd share some info on the cars, I did a little research on them.

I'm new here on the forum but I've been playing TS for over a year now but I was thinking of getting into content creation an this was on of the projects I had in mind along with the trinity covered hoppers that CP/SOO use and reprints for the CMP cylindrical hopper. I'm going to be busy until the middle of the month but I should be able to start before the end of the month.

You should request things on your own topic. Its fine because your new, but this is a topic on CP repaints.
If you check Digirails, then you may find a ton of covered hopper repaints, and other great repaints.

I think you took it the wrong way so I'll explain it wasn't a request but I was saying that I hope to make a model of the CP coal gondola as well as the covered hopper which is different from any covered hopper that I know of that has been built for TS.

Nice thanks for taking on the old gondolas Bcbuhler! When making models and repaints make sure you have some reference photos of the car or cars your going to either model or repaint. I gave a lot of information describing them and what they are for a few posts back. I'm no modeler or repainter but i might contribute one day, as i just don't have the proper programs although I heard you can use GIMP for the same purpose as Photoshop, and modeling? no programs for that. anyways i'll see if i can find some images of the gondolas in CP, Sultan, and Procor for use.

Again thanks for taking this request head on, be sure to show the WIP images so we can see your progress. I have seen the Car many times in real life, I know them by their iconic tapered sides and triangular shape at each end.

I have plenty of photos as well as a bunch of the intermountain ho scale models of the cars. I also saw a unit train of these a cars a year or two ago so they are still in coal service

Wow! Your way ahead of me! That's a good start, they also were used in the sulpur units as well.You might be able to scan the Ho model into a 3d model if you had access to a computer with that kind of software. You'd be able to use the HO models more than anything for the model and the images for the liveries. I'd definitely like to test the cars out in a test scenario I have for the NERW route, I use the scenario for driving the rolling stock I have and for testing out repaints for graphical errors. Good luck on the repaints and hope to see them soon.

Btw what liveries do you have for the HO models if you don't mind me asking cause I might eventually get into modeling my own HO route when I get the money to support the hobby.

I have 13 procor cars and three CP Rail cars but the CP ones don't have the multimark they just have a bar. I picked all of them on eBay for less than $20 a piece if I remeber correcty and they are weathered

Yeah I seen the old bar livery a lot as well as the multimark when I was a kid, boy when the trinities first showed up on the Windermere Sub it was a weird site. I was like wait what? Where'd the black ones go? Took me a while to get used to the trinities as a regular site for the coal units.

By all means go ahead with the CP bars as well for the simulator it will add variety to the mix. All the old liveries for this canadian rail car are welcome be it CP, Procor, Sultran, and any other railways that used them. Sultran mainly used them for Sulphur units.

20 dollars for the models? that's pretty cheap for the intermountain brand, that don't come cheap at retail. Nice score there!

Unfortunately I don't have as much free time as I thought and I took a look at the process of putting something the game and I just don't have the time to learn how to do it. I would be willing to build the 3D model in Sketchup if someone would want to take on the process of putting it in the game. I took a class on sketchup a couple years ago so I am familiar with it and I also could help with the repainting process as I have done some repainting in the past.

I agree with this, I really would love these cars. I got a factory on a short line near me that uses these and would be a great addition to the game

If someone models and gets it in the game, I could repaint too.

Thanks for the update! Another program I've seen other modellers use is Blender, but I'm not sure how easy it is to use let alone how CpU intensive it is. I'd be willing to test out the model and repaints in my test scenario that I made. I can let you know any of any errors I come across be it visual or technical. Thanks for attempting to create the cars. If you want advice on how to import the models into Railworks, you can contact Buzz or Bob Artim and they will help you out.
