Laurel Line Project

I've started this web page to chronicle the process of building this route as well as posting interesting historical facts about this railroad.

Trying to model the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area has it's challenges. It's a very hilly area and some of those steep hills are right next to the track. This always seem to create problems when trying to add buildings to the route. For right now I'm just working on getting a good map in place to work on. I'll deal with these problems one at a time.

Can anybody suggest freeware downloads that might come in handy for making a route in the early 1950's? I've downloaded the RCAP2 pack...I'm not sure what's all in but I know there's a lot of stuff there. Any other suggestions?

Of course, on the website I have my vintage buildings available for download, you'll be looking for the Downtown Buildings Mega Pack and my Inner City Classic Buildings.

As for vehicles though, some 50's era cars will be coming with the NRL Riverland Lines freeware route.

Thanks! Most of the railroad buildings and industries I'll be making myself, but I'm in need of some good background buildings like houses and small businesses and factories. I'm also looking for re-skinnable early diesels. While The Laurel Line uses electric, the connecting railroads don't so I'll be looking to make LV, DL&W and Erie units some time down the road.

Britkits has free starter loco's on most of his units. The RWA Route is only $15 and has a ton of circa 1950 stuff. There's some free cars in the library from that era.

Thanks! Looking into all this. I haven't had a chance to search around the web much so I don't know what's out there.

I just found this page that I started way page in 2014. since I'm back at the project again I thought it would be best to resurrect this thread. I changed the web link on the first post as the original site was on Facebook. I no longer use Facebook. The new project page is now on a Weebly site.

Here is my next offerings from the Laurel Line Route. I need to make some overhead trolley wires and poles. This should be interesting because I know basically nothing about how overhead wire is hung or used. I know I'll need to make a single pole (shown here) and a double pole and all the guide lines I may need.

Riptrack - I am so happy you have gotten the ball rolling with the Laurel Line. This is a totally worthy project. You got your "Wilkes-Bar" and your Scrantun and a parade of some of the most legendary railroads of the North East. And its electric!

And, I gotta say, it takes very large orbs of steel to take on Scranton, PA!

I would be lying if I said this project will be easy! Lots of hills, lots of scenery, lots of buildings! But then again...it's only 19 miles!

Here is the double trolley pole. I did a little test section at the Wilkes-Barre Station. I haven't decided on the best way tho make these pole and wires. Should I Make them into a gantries or scenery poles with a lofted wire? Or is there even a better way? Anybody deal with adding overhead trolley wires to their route before?
