Install Upgrade Headlights on the Kanawha Berkshire

Unread postby railduffer » Mon Feb 24, 2014 11:17 am

I have the G-trax NKP Berkshire original, the updated NKP Berkshire 765 from G-trax and the C&O Kanawha Berkshire that was an upgrade from the original NKP from G-trax. How can I get the updated lights that are on the 765 Berkshire and other newer locos on the C&O Berkshire? I do have RW Tools, but do not know how to use it very well.
Can I just re-install the C&O update?
Thanks for any help.

Rick is working on that for us right now. He's added the headlight but there's a camera position issue to adjust before releasing it. I'll post it here on RWA when it's ready.

Hey Tori,
Any new word on the Kanawha headlights?
I am running, and trying to write scenarios, for 4.5 almost every day. The route is very pro-typical of that part of the country. I'm anxiously awaiting 5.0.
I sure would like to see more C&O steam engines available, if you have connections with a locomotive builder.
Thanks.

This thread contains a link to the Kanawha updated by Tori to include projected lighting and other features.

I am unsure if I am allowed to link to the download directly. Otherwise you'll have to register to that other site or wait a while till Tori uploads it here to the RWA file library.

I shared it with a few people to test out. From the feedback I received, I would like to make another adjustment to the cab view. That's easy but I've been busy working on the Alleghany. I have a few pieces of power/rolling stock including the Kanawha that I plan to post here in conjunction with releasing the Alleghany version 5. By "in conjunction" I mean that it won't come included with the route, but separately along with a scenario or two for using it on the Alleghany. In the meantime, keep using the old Kanawha; the new one will install over top of the old one and anything you've already created should still work fine. Beware that scenarios built on the Alleghany 4.5 version may not work on version 5 without some rework. Sorry this takes so long but a project this big should be done in a sensible order to prevent a lot of headaches for all. I am now really close to putting version 5 into test and during that time I'll be writing those scenarios; that will take a few weeks, so hang in there. I think/hope you'll find the wait well worthwhile.

Duffer,
The reason I asked if you had the Northern was:

The Northern was the model for the C&O's "Greenbrier" series, with some modifications of course. The biggest difference to me is actually the tenders... the C&O favored extra capacity 6 axle tenders. I think it would cool to see Rick's Northern painted in the 614's current "The Greenbrier" green scheme.

While an articulated C&O is certainly desirable, the Challenger repaint doesn't appeal to me... it just doesn't look like anything the C&O made. It would need a lot of "stuff" added to the front and sides to look right, lol.

We are just working with what we have right now Tory. I have been working for the better part of a year to get someone to hang some compressors on the front of the Northern for my Great Northern stuff but everyone seems to be up to their elbows in projects.

The C&O headlights on the heavier locos were mounted low for a reason. This was fairly unique to the C&O. Because of tunnel clearances the air pumps had to be mounted on the front. Therefore there was no room for the headlights to be mounted on the boiler and were mounted low. Following are some examples.
I hope this helps.

Cool... been up for 10 minutes and already learned something new today! Guess I can take the rest of the day off, lol.

@Buzz... yea, that's the one. The dream of Jim Justice (owner of The Greenbrier)... though he's not having much luck getting it out of the Clifton Forge yard, darn it. If you get itchy for something to do, I have lots of pics, including in-cab.
