If I can get there on the Bergen, I will admit myself! After this ordeal with BT Junction, I could use 3 hots and a cot.

Now that I am away from TS and the Mighty Bergen - I can get down to business with mmss1.
Sure I love to help when you come to that. Both 8th & South Streets in Passaic use to have a lot of industries even after the textile & woolen companies headed south. There was a spider-web of tracks crossing 8th St even back into the 1970's & at least 3 businesses getting carloads. If you continue past Passaic Textile (US Rubber in the 60's to about 1980) down along Canal St, crossing Passaic Ave to the terminus back at Monroe, you have Okanite Cable & Panasote Chemical which always got cars until they moved (late 1970's - early 1980's) I will sure help when and if you decide to do the extension.

The Vornado (aka The Two Guys) siding was actually on the BCL. It went where Walmart stands today. The point were north of Hobart Place and it made it a 3 track crossing originally. After Two Guys closed in 1981, CR and NJDOT exempt the siding at took out the switch & repaved Hobart Place. The tracks through the parking lot stood up until about 2009 when Vornado least the land to Walmart & built new buildings on the property. The 2 original Two Guys buildings & the textile mill that they used as a warehouse & administrative offices were completely torn out & regraded. The only trace left is the track that curves from just east of Hobart Place & around the Marcellus Place Playground. Rails are paved over on Marcellus Place also. It was a cool thing seeing them drill through the parking lot as a photo I posted on this thread a while back shows. But I don't know if you want to start playing with the track on the BCL again just to put this in after what you been going through lately. I included a few Historic Aerial Screenshots of where the siding was and how it ran. Excuse the crudeness of the markings I made on them to give you the idea.

Vornado (Two Guys) I have a request outstanding to install this. I shelved it because, at the time, I would have to break the super-elevation to put the switch in for the siding. When I was working Garfield, I knew something had to be down by Walmart. Now, I know. I thought 2 Guys was in the lot along 8th St. Which, at this time, is where I would like to work.(low hanging fruit). However, I will study this for feasibility. This would be cool to pull off for a "parking lot run".

8th Street Yes, I am interested. I use that 1979 color image from Historical Aerials all the time on the route. You see any track down by 8th Street. I just need a shadow - I can do the track. I want Okanite Cable & Panasote Chemical! And those other 3 consignees. We have the Dundee Park Yard, so lets put it to use!

QUESTION-FOR ALL: Can you see all the frogs in front of the engine house on the Dundee? Given a choice would you rather have frogs or the rail, but not both? Would you be willing to install my track rules to your Sherman Hill Route to see them? All the track rule does is allow 40 meter curves.

CARLTON HILL: I have decided to do it. I want Royce Chemical real bad.

This is all we have consignee-wise on the Dundee at the moment.

The good news is ... BT is done and I am moving West towards Harriman.
The bad news is ... I think were going to need more trees.

Very cool about the Carlton Hill Branch too. Royce Chemical "Remember Royco Cleaning Products !" I use to love to ride my bike and watch the drills there. Believe it or not, Royce is still in business, the little building that is on 35 Carlton Ave is there world HQ. They own Passaic Color & Chemical in Paterson which was one of my clients years ago run by Albert Royce's Great Grandson. Funny bit of history, when the demoed the plant back in 1983, the Carlton Hill wall of the main building came crashing into Carlton Ave. I was working for a company that was in back ofDelsaco and hear it, then we lost power.

Plus the branch had a few good customers to make drills too. Delsaco on the west end of the branch got tankers with salad oil up into the mid 90's & was the last customer on the branch. Plus you had Forbes Trucking and Standard Bleachery on that side of Carlton Ave. Through the years you had Bell Container on the west side of the Maple Ave bridge & Herrick Ink east of the bridge closer to BJ. So yes, a lot of fun & love your doing it :)

Back to Dundee, I will compile you a list of what I know was active there at one time. Companies like Paterson Parchment Paper, Okanite, Panasote & others. And one time, Dundee was full of life & I love it.

And of course the Vornado siding, It was really cool as a kid watching them drill a dept store PARKING LOT, and if they had to on a Saturday it made it more interesting.

mmss1 - I am very excited about Carlton Hill, the old Erie main into Passaic and all that. The steam bridge I want to install in the swung open configuration. I don't know how long it was after '62 that it went away. I would like to know. The reason for doing the bridge is we have a subscriber JMSRR who, as a child, would ride his bike down to the bridge and hang out with the tender. I cant deny those who have personal memories of this wonderful route. I have them to and I want everyone to enjoy this as much as I. We will squeeze in all we can before we go final with this one. You will all have many hours of enjoyment on the Bergen.

The help with the Dundee is greatly appreciated. If you have any information or memory of the loads these customers got and the car types it would be appreciated. With just another 3 customers, the Dundee will stand on its own as a route within a route. That will be a great feature for scenarios. AND I get to leverage all the detail that went down there. This is a good idea.

So the order of battle here will be: Continue West on the main line from Arden to the Moodna, Dundee Spur, Carlton Hill and then decide or go to Campbell Hall. Done!

Let me say this ... laying all these trees "nicely" with underbrush and grass in such a way it looks like Ramapo valley is TEDIOUS!
But it looks good.

TREEMAGEDDON!

I always hated I was born 11 months after they took the mainline out of Passaic. Only thing left by the time I can remember was the station that was rebuilt in the 1950's next to the one hour cleaners was there in the 1970's as a bus terminal, the tracks still crossed Monroe St by Central Ave & still had lights & gates and the line north of Monroe St was still intact. It was used into the late 70's all the way down to the Paterson Yard "The Iron Hole" & XW Tower .

Now BE Draw. That beautiful steam powered swing bridge I can remember. After April 63 when the main was ripped up in downtown Passaic, then the tracks behind Passaic HS stadium & Passaic Park station. They left the swing span & Mayor Paul G. DeMuro of Passaic @ the time was trying to give the bridge away for free. On the Passaic side the ROW and parts of River Road were taken over by Route 21 in it's early construction phase then left to died at Monroe Street by Panasote in 1972. Would be another 30+ years until Rt 21 was completed but not as the original plan. The Rutherford side, the tracks ended a couple hundred feet before the river. BUT NOW THE SWING SPAN. I can remember it up to about 1969 when I was 6-1/2 years old. My dad use to tell me that was where the Erie went through Passaic. Lots of detours back then around the area because of the highway construction when we were going to Rutt's Hut or Burtlin's for some of NJ's best hotdogs (Had to put that in here *!greengrin!* ). It was in the open position because the Passaic River still had a lot of oil barge traffic at that time. Home Oil had storage in Wallington & Passaic near Gregory Avenue for the home heating unit & the industries on 8th Street use to get oil barge deliveries. One came up close to the Wall Street bridge in Garfield also. The span was taken out sometime in late 1969 - early 1970. The Historical Aerials website still shows the bridge intact in 1966 but gone in 1970.

But the Carlton Hill would be a great asset to the route & leaving a swing bridge like BE Draw open would be cool & an honor. !!*ok*!!

Thanks mmss1 - Now I'm gonna build the REST of Passaic! ( I lost my heart bubbles emoji, but you get the idea)

Take a ride up to Harriman where I am currently working - Trees? Oh yeah, we got some trees. I consult for a guy named Johnny Appleseed too!

Minerman, I happen to be starting a route in an urban area with gas stations, etc. If there are chains such as 7-11, what do you use to substitute those in?

Thank you for the opportunity to answer this one.
I use the Gerneric Store from NJCL, Gas Pumps from Sherman Hill and the German Light Canopy from the EuroAsset Pack.
The picture below is from a place you cannot see from the train. The background is a hint to where this is located and yes, its very urban. The one in the foreground is interesting, because in a city. Gas Stations are little more than a hut and some pumps.

RCAP has a Dollar General and a Seven Eleven in its pack. There are also some Chevron and Exon gas stations. From these you can change the signage and make other brands if you wish.
