I was hoping you can extend the route to Warren Ohio.

Its 29.8 miles from the Western end of my track to Pennsylvania. Ohio? I don't think that is going to happen.
!!**sorry**!!
Here is the map that shows what's in so far.

Minerman 146,
I talked to you last year on Steam during the progress of your route (kd5dga). It is fantastic and when I run it, I love it.

Glenn! I know who you are now. I just wanted to say when I step back and look at this. I realize that so many of you have been with this route for years literally years. You have watched every month as this route progressed from its very humble test beginnings in Suffern to the 70 mile long by 1 2 or 3 mile wide monster that it is today.

That is an amazing amount of dedication to this project from all of you and I can't thank you enough or show my appreciation enough for your kind attention.

Finally-I got my mojo workin! After 3 Weeks I got 2 hours in on the route AND I got pictures.
I am also dying to rant. But first, the Wednesday Route Update (tm). Cruetz, I have to end where I am at the edge of the Hackensack Wetlands and not go to Arlington. We got a pile of work in, lots of upgrades and were setup to do the Booton and Greenwood Lake Branch. In all honesty, I want to tackle Patterson. Its the holy grail of complexity and its crazy with consignees AND another yard at Patterson. It will take time, It will be a pain, but it will be unbelievably amazing. But first, I gotta go back to Walden and finish it.

In my time in Secaucus and Kearny, a lot of the old memories were a-flowing. Of a grittier time and place of course. I also notice that Croxton still is an FPS sucking monster and that nut has to be cracked if were going to originate and terminate trains there. Its a shame to have loaded so much into that place and not be able to run for 30 plus minutes before one runs out of memory. I will get that sorted somehow. But really, Croxton just kicks butt with all that is going on there.

Lets do some pictures: This is Kearny, NJ and a modern take on scenery with the old double track still running.

These pictures capture what I like about New Jersey and building this route - Just look at all the stuff going on in these images. If your were driving down Route 7, most of it you wouldn't even bother to think about. But when its presented in game you notice how complex the real work really is … so rich with the happenings of nature and man - its impossible NOT to notice. I like it and I like Jersey for all that goes on there. The smell - no so much.

Rant time:
Like a knuckle head I lurk in forums looking for talk about the Bergen. You know, to know what you guys really think. Trust me - Its mostly very positive. Every once in a while - I get bent out shape. its 3 things. 1. are the crashes to desktop that does not get reported to me and contains NO detail for me to discern the root cause. 2. People who don't get ** Munich and complain about missing assets. and 3. Port Jervis.

The Port Jervis one hurts - because what is the point of the New York Division with out Port? (from my side) The other side is the crew that wants to ride for 89 miles on a Metro North run without even throwing me a bone for doing 70 miles in 4 years. The other thing is that I built this thing as a test to see if DTG or someone would get the idea that it would be a good concept to get some wicked cool railroad history on a functioning virtual railroad centered around ….
20180923230435_1.jpg

20180923230508_1.jpg

Ya know DLC, legitimacy, recognition for and unsung railroad. Here at RWA - you guys are amazing, your with me, and you understand where I am coming from. I appreciate that so much.

So you want Port Jervis? Help me get a developer or DTG onboard so we can build a REAL RAILROAD, not some state subsidized commuter rail over the shell of a once great Class 1 railroad. (this is the rant part *!greengrin!*) What do I got to do to get this rolling/

This leads me to the super secret spy squirrel project. Let me tell you, I am total.. (let me yell here) TOTALLY committed to bring you a project that will transport history, so rich, so detailed and so incredible, you will feel it. YOU will experience what I have experienced - just like the Bergen itself - but better! I have committed hundreds of hours of research and part of my personal fortune to make this happen (about the cost of a 2 day vacation for 4 to Strasburg, PA with meals and hotel). And it will come. And you will come, not really knowing why...

Oh heck - here is the darn quote from the film Field of Dreams.

Ray, people will come Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $20 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

I think this darn railroad is like what the character, Terrance Mann, says above. I really do.
I want to bring it back for one more ride - you know?

Minerman said "But when its presented in game you notice how complex the real work really is … so rich with the happenings of nature and man - its impossible NOT to notice."

I had just spent an inordinate amount of time soaking in the details in the three images preceding the above remark before reading it. Maybe that goes to verify some of your thoughts!

If you are having problems in locating volunteers it may be because of a general lack of knowledge of route building or a matter of awe at what you have accomplished by those who build routes. And for DTG there is also the desire for profit. I hesitate to guess what they would charge for such a product.

You are a tough act to follow!

Keep up the awesome work !*cheers*!

Hello
Thank You for all your work. I now realize it was not a good idea for a request for a line that was abandoned in 2002 and does not have any industry on it, sorry. Still enjoying your route. Had a couple of my trains in NJT last week cancelled for PTC install. Keep up good work.

The Wednesday Route Update Post:
Route Update Status:
[ ] Fuggedaboudit
[ X ] It's on!

After careful consideration I have decided to stop scenery 1000 meters from Arlington Station. The reason is pretty simple: 2 square miles of Houses. It would be like East Rutherford all over again, without real route progress. What did happen, was that the time I allocated (2 months), while suffering massive work interruptions was the reality that I had to go 3-5 thousand feet on both sides of the track to get distant scenery in, rebuild and build new marshes on the Hackensack river, do some corrective work to detail up what was already there and generally prep the scenery in all directions first before pushing West.

I still think the Booton/Greenwood branch is a worthy project. More importantly, I have to use the time I want to devote to this project effectively. I am winding down and should not be accepting/attempting new work until I finish what I have left. So, late on Thursday or early Friday, I will release the Harrison Cutoff and all the work that has occurred over the past 2 months. Then, I will go and finish the Village of Walden, NY and complete the Campbell Hall Project. Next, is Royce Chemical in East Rutherford, with part of Passaic, NJ as background/distant scenery.

I hope the 64 bit works for the Bergen. This will encourage me to consider doing some complex/dense scenery and further expand the route.
So here is a list of how it may roll if I decide to keep going:

Old Main Line - Carlton Hill, East Rutherford, NJ
Main Line - Lyndhurst to Patterson NJ
Mainline - Middletown, NY
Mainline - Otisville, NY
Greenwood Lake Branch - Arlington, NJ
Newark Branch - Kearny, NJ
Main Line - Port Jervis
Main Line - Delaware Division - Shahola, PA
NJ&NY Branch - Spring Valley, NY
Mainline - (to) Cleveland, OH *!greengrin!*

In the end, all the work to get so close to Arlington was worth it. Secaucus has enhanced scenery for the work which we can all enjoy. I do have a QD for a local freight run out of Croxton for a 5 mile run through some really interesting scenery to the end which is where the Boonton goes over the olden Harrison Cutoff ( A Lackawanna Branch the went from Lyndhurst to Newark.

Creutz - thanks for understanding - I hope you do enjoy what has been done and that it gets to somewhat 'tickle' your memories of riding those old Booton coaches on this line. - Warm Regards as Always - MM!

Every time I visit this thread, I am simply amazed by the amount of dedication and creativity that goes into this route. I don't think I fully appreciated it until I began building my own route and realized all the work and planning involved. The Bergen is truly a work of art and the best thing is, we can all experience it as it progresses. Just providing all the continuous updates is quite a feat in itself IMO. So Thanks again for all the wonderful content!

btw; beautiful pics! !!*ok*!!

Well, I am ready to release in the morning. Below are the highlight shots. Remember we also light up the Bergen - so do try some "Night Moves" when you want to try something different.

RudiJaeger - Keep up on your own great work. And yes, dedication, planning and a wild imagination make the pixels come alive.

*ROUTE UPDATED*

Old file size: 167.786 MB
New file size: 168.126 MB

Wow, the last 3 days have been great. I got 3 hours a day in - and the work really shines on this one. Mind you - we go nowhere, but the 5 miles of quick drive is well worth your 20 minutes to see some truly unique scenery. The work here reminds me of all switching possibilities in Croxton, and, as always, I am dying to finish the route so I can build scenarios and drive on this thing!

Have a great weekend! !*salute*!

The Wednesday Route Update post:

After all the work angst worked itself out, I was able to get my route building going again. So, were getting about 2 hours a day in, every day. That means progress and we are laying out the buildings in Walden. Based on my current work, we are running about 2000 feet away from the track in all directions. The track actually ends in town, and its surrounded by buildings and streets and houses. I have a renewed vigor in my work, I am doing each structure as it comes, easy and difficult, I spend the time to craft, shape and choose the building that most represents what I see. 2 months ago, I was sick of all the houses and Walden was daunting. Its good to be back in the country and its good to see the light at the end of this journey.

Next up is 64 bit Train Simulator. Let me tell you, I want 64 bit, I need 64 bit and to make the Bergen work we NEED 64 bit. That crash dump issue, which appears to be more prevalent than I realized is a deal killer for subscribers. Even the high end units get it. What I do know about it, is that If you, for example, run a QD and then run another one the likelihood of a crash grows. This relates to non-released memory. I think its still going to happen. What I do today, is clear the cache in settings parodically. But, I also don't play like you do. Typically, I get on, build for a couple of hours and do a test drive. Or I just get on and do a run, So, I am not running say scenario on one route, a QD on another and then get on the Bergen. I don't know if this is your experience for sure. None the less, I am very interested to see how TS64 plays the Bergen. By all indications, the likelihood of fps improvement is nominal. And I have places I really need to improve. So after this, I will take steps to alleviate some of the low fps areas manually by trial and error.

I do prowl the internet looking for comments on the route.
Like this little ditty: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/thread ... line.5252/
When the poster was informed that there was a workshop route for the very same he said:

" I know i have it but there are some missing details and doesn't go all the way to Port Jervis"

This is how you DONT get Port Jervis my friends. And most important, as for DTG they are not going to build it - ever. Back on thread one over 3 years ago, I told you, this wasn't going to get done. And the only way it was going to be built was by a party dedicated to the subject matter. What frosts me is 2 things: Number one: Route Requests, some guys have posted for years, literally years going on an on why it would be great for DTG to build their baby. I look at this and think: with all this time you could have built it yourself. But they don't - because as in life, people think that if they can come up with an idea, someone will do it for them. This 'logic" is astounding. Numbah two: "there are some missing details" Wow, what a bold yet meaningless statement. What.details.specifically.are.missing? Its true there are missing details, like mailboxes, uh parking lot bumpers, garage doors, uh Patterson, NJ, the New York Skyline, the Atlantic Ocean. So, a completely factual, yet utterly useless statement.

I get that they guy hasn't read a darn thing about the route I have written for the past 4 years. But seriously, Google the name of this route there is a TON of material about this project. I'm sure the persuasiveness struck a nerve with DTG. I'll let you in on a little thing right here. This route was supposed to be a PROOF OF CONCEPT and DTG is STILL not interested. Not a big deal, Im having fun over here. But that is not the point! Dude, they aint building the Port Jervis line! DTG cant build every route of course and they have to be commercially viable. You want to stay in business you gotta reach the most potential customers. And I knew that going in. And THAT is why I went waaaaaay over the top with the scenery. Because if I just slapped some track down, plopped some trees and spray painted the ground here and there and then talked about how I was going to do 90 miles of the Erie on Steam for 6 months then crapped out and quit like we have seen time and time again - this route would be forgotten. And that, my friends, aint ever going to happen. THIS is a labor of love. I love this route. I love its history. I love the land (grabs two fists of virtual dirt up) ( and yeah I am thinking of that scene in Gone with the Wind when Scarlet comes back to the looted and ransacked Tara) and I love the people that ran the Erie and the Erie Lackawanna because I supper with them at Thanksgiving as they are actual members of my family! Missing some detail and doesn't go to Port Jervis.... yeaaaahhh riiiiiight so compelling. Go build your build your dreams instead of sitting on your can waiting for a handout.

Drops Mic, and sets soapbox on fire.

Woo I feel better.

Have a great weekend! !*roll-laugh*!

I personally can't wait for tomorrow's update so I can run the new 40s on the Bergen. I put 3 dedicated Bergen Line radio samples for the cab just so I can run it and feel immersed with a scenario or two. :D
