Place the unnecessary links on a piece of extra, separated short track (1-2m is enough).
You even may collect unnecessary links on this peace, if you have a bunch of signals with too many links.
This should avoid the communication problems of overtaking links.
I have tested this several times with swiss signals from the route "SBB1 Pfaeffikon-Landquart" by simtrain, which use modified Kuju-scripts.

The only pitty I see may be which link to choose to place on this extra peace of track.
I would use Link 1 for a way straight ahead without reduced speed. For the others it depends on the signal.
You need to test this, but don't use freeroam scenarios.
You need short standard scenarios where AI-traffic crosses the way of the player-loco or overtakes it.

Good luck

Kris

Kris, Your advice is sound. In the coming days and weeks I will be looking at the mainline signals and will reduce or eliminate the redundant links. The signals I have used reflect the amount of lights I see in images. The UP Search Light Signals have VERY limited configurations and in several cases I didn't have enough links. As far as signal testing, I only test in Quick Drives, I have run simple scenarios on the Bergen but not with more than one train. 99% of my time with train simulator is Building the Bergen and taking test drives on it.

The toughest signaling on the route, is Hoboken, by far. The largest problem I have found with signals is broken rail (Rail that is not completely connected though it shows that it is) When I find them, I have to relay, and on super elevated curved this can be hugely time consuming. And so, I appreciate any input, advice or locations of errors as that save me time to keep building.

I admit I put some of this work off. But when I hear from you and others with concerns, I address them immediately to solve the problem but also to show that I consider and respect your opinions. If anyone has any comments regarding what I see as problem areas (Ridgewood Junction, Waldwick and Hoboken) please step up and share your knowledge!

Thanks, as always.

On You Tube there is a vid of the Morristown and Erie MX 29 on the Dundee sub. And with a Alco C-424 moving some old rail equipment.
Street running can be a PITA for rail crews.
Search for ' Morristown and Erie'

Jamesphh: I completed the track correction on the Dundee Spur. I completely relaid the track by the engine house. The dual track rules have to stay as I had to modify the rules for the 40 meter curves to replicate the track that is there. This time I think I nailed it. And this should make NS Trains very happy. I forgot how nice the Dundee looks - its a switching paradise.

I strongly suggest every one grab one of Dogmouse's S2 with a glorious EL repaint by Xdriver and relive the 70's down in Passaic, NJ! !!*ok*!!

AHHH ! The ole "South Street Handicap" as the police in Passaic use to call it. The police would hang out behind Salang Convertible Sofa on Wall St. facing South St. to see which drunks would take out the switch stand on Friday & Saturday nights heading back to Wallington via Market St. LOL. I lived around the corner from this on the corner of Wall St. & 8th St. for 4 years and in that time, I remember it being taken out at least 2 dozen times. Sometimes the autos would get hung up on it !*roll-laugh*! . The branch had something of the same problem in Garfield to on Monroe St. The street switch machine for Hayden Chemical (Ex Tenneco & Kamala in modern times) was between the points of the switch. The door for it would become out of square sometimes or just rot out. Then someone would drive over it and BAM ! Never saw it happen but seen the aftermath plenty of times with my dad being in the Garfield FD. The Dundee Spur has plenty of great history & stories, more so than Crocodile Dundee LOL.

I found one more You Tube vids on the Bergen ( among other routes). They are of various time periods and feature the U34CH. Included are shots of Hoboken.
Search for 'U34CH' on You Tube and are parts 1-8.
I believe parts s 5 and 6 include Bergen.
I did notice that the signals are not seatchlight but a triangular colored light and some of the signal bridges are singular to the VNHRR.

I took the bait and searched RWA library for the S2 by Joe but found no joy. Care to give us a hint?

Thank you!

jamesphh,

I can explain the signals. I have purposely limited myself to 3 Route DLC and to be compatible with the steam workshop so we started with the searchlight which is accurate (sort of ) for pre-1974. Every effort is made to make the Bergen as real as possible to make up for all the stuff I cannot make accurate: Buildings, Signals, Bridges and so on. I compromise! I love those signals from the VHHRR too. I need them at all my Xovers. But, I will not add 3rd party or another DLC to this route. And those U34CH videos, are great! I used those to detail around the tunnel entrances to Bergen Hill.

You are going to love the new track down on the Dundee!

JackD - I have your back! XDriver has been EXTREEMLY kind to the Bergen with his re-paints. I hope that he would have no issue we me sharing the file, if one could not find it in the Library. And this gives me an opportunity to get my Erie on and talk about the Bergen. This is THE unit to use on the Dundee during the EL era - this light, four-axel beauty, was light and strong to service a bit more than the few customers I have down here. But let me say this - it totally fits here and you feel you are in a different time and place.

MMSS1: I gotta say you are now my 'official' resource for the Dundee. This only gets done once, so lets consider a little expansion project. If my guess is correct I am going to go down somewhere parallel to 8th street for some more consignees. Can you assist with a limited expansion of the Dundee say where 2 Guys would have been - I am willing to go all the way down 8th St. I would like to get an idea of what is down here and links for pictures, track alignment would be a big help. This really needs to get done - the Dundee is a special place and I want the world to see it! Its like the most cool switching route that stands on its own... and its REAL!

Route Update Number 129
New York Division-Bergen Line 9.7.7: Southfields

New Scenery from Southfields to Arden, NY. Dundee Spur: Rework of track at engine house, scenery detail, correction of track rules/speeds, add additional siding markers and speed signs. Updates to label all grade crossings with Street Names. Track relaid at Allendale to correct super elevation. Super elevation now starts just West of station and continues through to Wood-Ridge. Allendale Station Reworked and updated, new track from east of station, West through last curve before Ramsey, NJ and its all super-elevated now. Additional track infrastructure work to improve communication of signal-scripts in game.

Fixes: BT Signal West showing red in QD/Scenarios Westbound. This required a complete relay of track from BT West, past Radburn. This new track eliminated 5 separate line breaks and straightened the track. The signal problem was resolved.

Note: Due to all the track changes, if you encounter any error in loading the route, delete it, following the instructions on our Steam Home Page.

Documentation: A draft of the Operations Guide for the Bergen has been uploaded. As we near completion, a user guide will assist scenario builders for their future work on the Bergen.

NS - I remember talking to you about reworking the track to more accurately represent what is there. Since I was working on track rules, I decided to go for it and fix the track. Check it against Google Maps... it looks ... goooooood.

You are so welcome for the repaints - all credit goes to XDriver - his work is superb!

Side note: Buzz, was right. Because of a faulty signal I ended up relaying several miles of track. So, since I was blowing everything, I re-laid even more track. The New Super EL - East of Ramsey station is boss! So, scenario writers concerns are well founded!

Thanks Minerman for considering the track re-work on the Dundee! I just got home from work so I'm planning on giving the Dundee another run here soon. After that I'm going to do another freight run from Croxton all the way to the end of the line. So I will be reporting back with screenshots and compliments, concerns, or ideas later on this evening/tomorrow. !*cheers*!

Minerman.
Thanks for the quick response to my request! Once I get my 7-Zip updated for Windows 10 and figure out how to get a clean "STEAM" installation with the least possible loss of data I will be the proud user of your "stash". ( The last update of the Bergen was really polluted) Or maybe latest update will be OK. *!lol!*
