Thank you for the images, these are perfect. I will produce this livery tonight.

As for the upright I have added it. Not sure how I missed it to be honest. I'm sure I had it in an earlier version. Anyway thanks for pointing it out, it's what these early images are for.
Sometimes when working late at night I am looking hard I don't see the easy!

cheers again.

It's all good , if you get stuck for any logo it be no problem to fix it for ya .. Sweet job on this model BTW , looks real nice .. that CN texture is the business !!*ok*!! .

Got some info for you on the Southern RR GP9 ( disregard if ya know about it ) >> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_hood , not sure how people feel about LHF , certainly adds to the driving challenge though ?

Yeah , real easy to miss stuff .. been there and done that lotsa times , don't seem to matter how hard I look sometimes . *!embar*! **!!bang!!**

The Rock unit looks fantastic. !!*ok*!!
I have a question that I can`t find answer to: What is that rectangle thing around one of the rear cooling fans. I find it common on early diesels of northern railways.
I am talking about this http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=281258&nseq=4
And this http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=315904&nseq=2
Derek`s CN unit also has it - http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8JCAdSTCMQ4/Tb28uYbd8rI/AAAAAAAABR8/bx53OKh3dRQ/s1600/CN_02.jpg

Good question. Could that be a certain version of dynamic brakes? Most had radiators off the sides, but that could be how they constructed that particular body? I dunno? **!!bang!!**

I don`t think it has any conection to the dynamic brake. Here is a picture without it - a C&O unit with dynamic brake http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=354059&nseq=3
and I posted it earlyer - a BN Geep with that thing http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=281258&nseq=4 this unit has no dynamic brake but has that strange cover of one of the cooling fans
But as I said I find it common for northern railroads. !*don-know!*

The progress on this model looks great, and the modeling of the cab as usual appears top notch.

I do have an inquiry for Derek, however---What was the prototype used in the development of the model? When I first saw the early development pictures of this locomotive, something struck me as not quite right. When I compared the model against several photos of the prototype, there was only one discrepancy; the fuel tank on nearly every locomotive I examined was notably smaller, rounder, and lower-profile than that on the model (links to photos below). I did run across a few examples of alternate arrangements, but none of these appears to match either.

Photos of locomotives featuring the typical fuel tank arrangement:

http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=353532&nseq=79
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=337599&nseq=206
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=333749&nseq=234
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=333626&nseq=235
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=331972&nseq=245

I did manage to find a handful of examples which featured a fuel tank very similar in profile to the one in the model, however all such locomotives also sport "torpedo tubes" (i.e. the air reservoirs are relocated to the roof to allow for an enlarged, full-length fuel tank).

Photos of locomotives featuring the large tank and roof-mounted reservoirs:
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=354289&nseq=73
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=345483&nseq=155
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=342964&nseq=171
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=342727&nseq=173

...and a side-by-side comparison.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=347431&nseq=135

Is it possible that documentation from different locomotives was used in the design of different components, or was an extremely rare prototype simply used as the basis for the model?
