Thank you.

Working around the Old Colton Yard I decided to follow a spur that breaks off to the South and quickly discovered several blocks of street running down S. 9th Street. Who knew? Not me! The spur is a couple of miles long with a handful of sidings, one of which appears to be a lumbar yard. I'll have to sit down with Google Earth street view to see if I can identify what the industries are. Since finding the 'street running' I pretty much convinced myself that I have to put the spur in and scenic it.

Amazing job on the spur.

UP has almost completely closed the riverside Industrial Lead except for the short run to the old Griffin Wheel Co (now Trulux/Cascade Lumber). This industry will eventually be served by BNSF on the west side (just as ATSF served that side in the 1950s and 1960s when it was Griffin Wheel), and the remaining Riverside tracks will be pulled.

FWIW, the original line was part of the old PE system, and where the street tracks are was once a good sized PE yard in the 1930s and 1940s. The line ran from just north-east at Redlands, crossed ATSF in downtown Riverside (aka: Riverside Jct), and then ran all the way to Colton. IIRC, the line had actually gone further to Fullerton, but you'll have to dig around to confirm. Even up to the 1990s, there was still a few rail served industries along the line, including one or two past the Sanjac crossing.

Also note that the branch is dark territory.
Cheers!

Thank you for the information Hack.

I just took a closer look at the area and the tracks do indeed end at Trulux/Cascade Lumber when I changed the imagery to the latest taken on 2/9/2016. I can also see road graders working on what I assume will be the roadbed for the BNSF access. I'm going to rip out that signal and most likely the track past the road and use a spur or yard track for a more 'doomed' look. Glad you posted when you did and saved me from a few hours of unnecessary work. !!*ok*!!

Throwing hours at the route is akin to shooting spitballs at a wall, sooner or later something will stick. Threw another 6 hours at the Riverside Industrial spur and managed to get just over 1/4 mile mostly finished. First shot is the last half mile of the 1 mile long spur and the second shot is of Trulux/Cascade Lumber. End of the spur is just above the pickup truck at center-right, mid-distance.

Ask the Minermen about their Hoboken project, or any other guy working on a project of comparable magnitude. *!lol!*

It's good to take a break once in a while from route building.

I'm sure there are a lot of guys here who know intimately what a route builder goes through. It one of those things that if you haven't done it yourself then you really have little conception of what goes into it. It takes a great deal of passion for the route you are working on in addition to a boatload of focus and mental stamina. I've been going hot and heavy for about a month now and if history gives me any clue then in about 2 or 3 weeks I'll have to take a couple of weeks off to recharge, preferably by playing any game that has tanks.

Unless there is a catastrophe where whether I had a backup would be the last thing on my mind than I hope I'm covered. Have 2 external HDD's with backups going back to day 1 and I usually keep the last 2 or 3 on a USB flash drive.

The Riverside Industrial Spur, even though just 1 mile long, burned me out and I'll get back to it in a few days. In the meantime I took to adding a bit of detail to areas that were put down long ago.

Thank you sir. Those are words easily used to describe your work as well. I have taken no small measure of inspiration from the New York Division - Bergen Line.

Thank you and welcome to Railworks America. I'm a new poster here myself but have been a long time follower of the forums. Since I live on the opposite coast and have never been to this area it was a nightmare of mine that one day someone who knows about the route first hand would tell me;

"You've gotten 99% of everything wrong but that it looks pretty good for a fictional route".

To which I would reply

"It's not fictional, it's based on Ca..."

"Tsk, tsk... You've got it wrong!"

(To be fair there are a number of very knowledgeable people here who probably would have cried foul if I had gotten something terribly wrong. In fact, Hack just recently saved me from going down the wrong track, so to speak.)

You just made me breath a huge sigh of relief. I've done the best I can using resources such as the forums here and it's members, Google Earth, tracking down timetables and whatever I can glean from the web but there is always a nagging voice in the back of my mind telling me that I really have no idea what I'm doing. I hope you'll keep watching this thread, not to mention the rest of the site, and keep me on my toes if things don't look right to you. I have no problem re-doing things if I've got them wrong. I just spent 2 days ripping up some parts of the route because they looked rushed or odd to my eye.

Thanks again for the vote of confidence and quite possibly I might need to pick your brain in the future when I get closer to releasing a beta version of the route.
