This post isn't a for a new project, but is an announcement that I'm putting a hold on all of the projects that I've posted so far. For right now, I want to focus on improving my modeling skills. So please don't hold me to finishing the locomotive in the following pictures, because I can't find/don't have any cab photos.

I fully intend on finishing the RS-3, the Davenport, the freelanced steam locomotives, the PRR A3 and anything else I've posted.

It's based off of this locomotive

This locomotive is mostly a way for me to improve my modeling skills. It's not finished yet, but personally, I think it's shaping up to be my best looking model. *!greengrin!*

Once I've built my skills up, I'll be back to working on everything.

A large portion of the major exterior components are in place. There's still more left to add, as well as components to finalize the shape of. But with a cab appropriate for an 1894 Baldwin built locomotive (with the added dynamo equipment and being converted to oil firing), I could safely say this is the best looking thing that I've made. *!greengrin!*

Very impressive work.

There's not much to say other than externally, the locomotives are mostly complete. I just need to add some smaller components/other small details as well as finish up the rest of the tender. The only major thing that I need to model is the cab. If I can't find any suitable IRL cab pictures of an 1890's built Baldwin, I'm probably going to have to base the cab controls off of the Baldwins in the "Clear Creek Old Timer" Pack (plus the Class B4D that comes with the Clear Creek route). The reason being is that they're from around the same period as the locomotives I'm modeling; so they should have the about same cab equipment that this would've had.

The reason the 4-8-0 exists is simply because I wanted to know what the 4-6-0 would look like with an extra set of drive wheels. I personally think that the 4-8-0 version with slightly larger diameter cylinders looks better than the 4-6-0.

I've also been wanting to make other wheel arrangements with this, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I wouldn't mind making an 0-6-0 & 0-8-0 out of them, but I think the least amount of lead wheels they could have would be 2. A 4-4-0 would just look strange. Without a proper route, anything bigger than 4-8-0 wouldn't have a place to operate.

I'm open to suggestions.

I'm a big fan of experimentation, especially since it was common throughout the entire steam era! Also, we don't have a 4-8-0 in the sim yet, even in standard gauge. Once you do release these, your locos will definitely become a regular on my narrow gauge routes, along with the Machine Rail equipment.

Thanks! It's nice to know that these will see immediate service once released!

Here's a small Update:

-More detail has been added to the headlight

-The smokebox door brackets have been updated

-I've altered the shape of the sand dome slightly

For the last couple of days I've been messing around with Quixel Mixer 2020 to see if eventually buying Substance Painter would be worth it. So far, the results look good enough for me to want to get to the point where I can buy it and be happy with my purchase.

The pictures in the scenario editor have the camera flashlight on to light everything better.

Neither the flat car or the pilot wheel are properly unwrapped, that's something I'll have to work on. All I did to texture these was just use pre-made textures that are in the program.

These are actually 4 individual pilot wheels placed down, but more specifically it's the pilot wheel model from the Baldwin that I've been showing the progress of. I was actually thinking of making a pack of various rusty wheels (both narrow and standard gauges) to upload here. I have a few wheel models that I can start with, but let me know if there's anything specific I should include.

I know that this is yet another project, but I'm quite happy with it *!greengrin!* Once I figure out a good method for texturing, progress will definitely be faster with everything that I've started.

3ft Gauge (Freelance) 0-10-0 Combined.jpg

It's entirely freelanced. It's a combination of the 4-6-0's boiler & its fittings, with a modified frame & drive wheels from a Schenectady Locomotive Works built 4-8-0 and steam chest/cylinders & valve gear (when finished) from drawings of RGS #74 that I found. All to create an 0-10-0 that is 11ft 8in tall. It also has two axles that have blind/flangeless drivers. This is far from finished but I thought that I'd share it. I also plan to do 0-8-0, 0-6-0 and 0-4-0 versions as well.

Here's something I've been working on that's finally working (mostly). Duel Coupling! !*YAAA*! !*YAAA*!

Buckeyes coupled with a visible link to a link & pin car!! I'm not sure if it's been done before, but I'm just happy that a novice like me was able to get it working.

Just ignore the different coupler heights *!!wink!!*

I've been overall busy, plus I keep going back and forth with various different projects. I also have a really (and I mean Really) bad habit of starting new projects without finishing previous ones.

Don't worry though, I haven't forgotten any of my narrow gauge models. *!greengrin!*

I like narrow gauge stuff too much to not finish any of it!

Thanks!!
