I'm not trying to bust anyone's bubble, but I thought it might be prudent to jump in here with some download count number facts.
1) The download count numbers you see for any files are not to be taken as exact successful downloads. If you click on the download link and immediately cancel the download, the count number is incremented by 1. If you start the download and it does not complete for some reason (your internet connection drops for example), the download count is incremented by 1.
The only way around this would be to write a script that would only count successful downloads. That, however is not an option for this site as it would require hundreds, if not thousands of lines of code, could cause an issue with server security and/or visitor privacy, not to mention excessive server load requirements.
2) Not every download is made by members of this forum. As a matter of fact, I would estimate that only a small percentage of the successful downloads were made by members of this forum, or any forum for that matter.
There is a lot of RailWorks users that are not members of any forum. There are RailWorks users that may be members of forums in other languages and other forums around the world, not to mention the other English forums.
It is quite feasible that even if someone did download a file and had problems with a successful install, they may not be able to read, write, and/or speak the English language - hence they would not be able to contact the developer about their problems.
The best way to evaluate success or failure of a developers work is to go by the posts in the various forums and weigh the difference between comments of either successful or problematic installs.
I hope this helps.
