I do think so myself that using the sounds off of a payware engine would be a very bad idea since the ones that don't yet have the engine won't have sounds for this one. Better to just set it to the sound of one of the old default engines.

Was that what I suggested? Why ruin a work of art by using old outdated sounds?

Here's you a video that has some pretty decent sounds in it that you can use for the engine. If you contact Mike Rennie I'm sure he could tell you how to take these sounds out of the video and apply them to the engine.

Also, here's you the perfect engine idle sound, I don't know why though that the youtube video setting on here doesn't want to work recently.

If the sounds are not taken from a payware engine it would be better for the person that doesn't yet have the payware engine because of lack of money. Since without the payware engine you'd have no sounds for the engine and it just wouldn't sound right.

Dick Cowen has a free version of the RS-11 which has a pretty nice sound and is essentially the same prime mover in both of these as they are both V-12s. Most of the design changes were to help reliability from the old 244B to the 251 in the RS11.

Sounds good, if the sounds were set to a freeware engine that would be better anyways, just so that when you get the engines you'll be able to have sounds without having to have a certain payware engine.

I'd like to be able to get the RWA route and engine, but right now without having a job I just can't until whenever I can get a new job.

Hate to be a Buzz kill, but the S2 had a l-6 539T like an RS1, not like the 12-251B like an RS11.

Well if he can get the sounds for free (since its a freeware loco and all) I don't see what the big deal is?

Why are you missing the fact that the sounds would be part of the engine, and not dependent on any thing else? Is it that you are you too cheap to even support the forum?

Your constant harping about freeware is driving me nuts. Let's make sure these creative folks are being compensated for their hours and hours (and months) of labor.

.

Far be it from me to get political about this matter, but I would like to request to the moderators and members here, a little indulgence on my part, to comment on the last few posts I've been reading here, in this thread.

John, I think what Mike is saying to you is that donation ware is not necessarily payware. Forking out a few bucks for the (Brilliant) RS1, is really more a show of solidarity to this community, and to help out and support a website that you are very fond of, and have posted to, thousands of times.

Additionally, Aliasing the RS1 sounds for the S2 (if Rick were to allow it), would even help in some ways, if you think about it, because those who havent picked up the beautiful RS1 yet, might learn of it, or find another valid reason to donate to this place, once they realize their freeware Alco S2 is rather silent without it.

...on a lighter note, and hopefully keeping this thread from being locked, I wrote my first LUA script today, (thanks to PapaX and SMMdigital!) and got my cab lights to work from the console !!!! Wooo!! !*brav*!

And there was light!

And we saw that the light was good, and it separated a pin-up from darkness.

Should make a LUA pull up a different pin up every time you go in there. I could totally be down with that. !**duh*!!
