I'm curious about one thing: Derek doesn't mention plans or blueprints for his F7.
His posts make it look as if he's doing it freehand "Make a Sphere, Scale the sphere in the z axis".

If I wanted to make a loco, how would I ensure it is exactly like the original?
Would I scan a plan and trace over it in 3DSMAX?

Three words: Research, research, research.

Finding blueprints, photo's, spec's and data, etc. If you want accurate, prototypical looks and performance.

RCS (or 3rd party) needs to do a "SD" pack(s). SD40's, SD45's, SD50's, SD60's, SD70's, SD80MAC, SD90's. *!greengrin!*

The BN and SF SD40-2's have this feature.

Well that would be the easy route, although sometimes getting the plans clear enough in max is an issue; you can also just measure everything from the plans and use those measurements in Max, but that won't help doing curved surfaces - it's enough for simple things like signals. There are lots of walkthroughs about setting up blueprints in Max around though.

I'd be extremely surprised if they managed to make the mapping 100% compatible with the old SD40.

What's the story with the P42/superliners that RSC is also working on. Is that yet one more piece of DLC, is that part of NEC, or is it part of RW3?

RSC is not the group working on it, it's another addon for RailWorks.

That's a joint-venture between G-TraX and DigitalTrainModel and will be released as dlc most likely the same day as the NEC.

EDIT: more progress on the SD40

Please please please please please let this thing be unwrapped in a normal way. I could care less about working with existing reskins. I always wanted to paint the SD40-2 but the current textures are a complete joke.

Great looking model. Hopefully they can also redo the SD40-2 Snoot nose. And the ES44 please RSTom fix the ES44.

Well, I would hope he's made the cab section so as to be easily converted into the highnose/widenose ones, or they're going to be looking rather sad. I'm sure it's been considered though.
