Just finished kitbashing the US Navy Dirigible Mooring and US Helium Production Plant, north of Fort Worth. Along with the nascent Meachum Field, which had it's birth in 1925 according to one report.

Looking good! What a unique railroading opportunity and venue.

Your latest post has my juices flowing and is inspiring me to take another crack at making a set of Helium cars for RW.

I did a set a few years back for OR. Sadly, I'm not a modeler, just a repaint tinkerer but the helium cars are one of my favorite cars. I just used some creative licensing for the car ends but was rather pleased with the results. I'll have to see how they look in RW.

Back when I was 'real world' model railroading I had a set of 25 of these cars.

Thanks to both of you for the kind words.

It would be fun to have those helium cars. They look like maybe 40 foot cars? I'll have to look into what the loading mechanism would be like. With those cars I'd add a track at the dirigible mooring tower, as an alternate method for filling the dirigible from the cars. Don't know yet if they were actually available in 1925, but that wouldn't dissuade me - eg experimental cars.

For anyone who cares to test, links below for the route and assets in beta. I doubt it can be run in 32-bit. I mean, not in a scenario. I use 64-bit and have 16 gig memory, with a draw distance slider all the way to the left. Please report any problems. If I've included assets that I shouldn't have, I'll fix that immediately.

All trackwork is completed. Scenicking is "done" on the northern 2/3 of the route, ie everything from the Texas & Pacific tracks north. That includes the greatest part of the operational features. The thee yards to the south have enough scenery to make them usable, to support operations in the north.

Remaining to do in the north are speed limits, people, some of the loading points, telephone and electrical poles and wires, and probably more. There is no vehicle traffic on roads, as I have never looked into how to make the traffic strips use 1920's vehicles.

I have NOT driven trains over every foot of the trackwork, but don't know of any faults there. I forgot to delete my test scenarios, so ignore those. Or if you want to fiddle with them, mostly GreatNortherner 30 and 40 foot cars are used, Britkits engines, G-Trax engines.

I want to thank all the asset creators. Get the complete list in the asset files. The route would be barebones without assets from GreatNortherner, jpetersjr, RWA, GTrax, 3DTrains, UKTrainsim Freeware Pack Terrain Textures, WACampbell, rail-sim.de and many many more.

Payware needed:

Bessemer & Lake Erie route
RWA Lakeside route

Freeware
included in the assets files, but the following must come from the sites

1) SAD assets from Rail Sim.de downloads page, get the Altenburg-Wildau Route and the scenery Objects

2) 3dTrains ScaleRail, ScaleRoad, Rural Landscapes

Here are all the documentation files I used to make the route:

As noted earlier in this thread, the 1925 map, Fort Worth 1925.jpg, was my blueprint.

No route markers yet or did you just not include them?

You should see 60+ markers. Any chance you only downloaded the route file, not the assets too? I hadn't thought of that when suggesting someone might only download the route. The markers are in the firinonthedenver folder in assets.

If that's the case I'll redo the route only zip to include the markers folder.

I just redid the route-only file in the post above. Thanks for pointing out the error. Here is what I added, unzip this to the assets folder, or get the new route-only zip in the post above:

I downloaded Altenburg-Wildau for the assets but when unpacking I am getting a file error message. Anyone else having this problem?

Did you get both parts? I had to click on the title of the route, which led to a different page with links to four files, two of them are parts 1 and 2 of the rar. It unpacked properly with winrar.

Americansteam discovered that the following files were left out of the download for the assets (I'll update the download file later on if more problems are found, and thank you Americansteam):

Just curious, what are the empty and loaded weights of a helium car?
Is a loaded car lighter than an empty one?

Also, if a helium train derails, crashes and spills, do onlookers run away screaming in tiny voices?
