Parts of the area in the image you posted was part of UP's tie treatment facility, which extended on the west side of track 3 almost all the way to Mountain Cement, so as built, I-80 would be slightly out of place. The highway was conceived in the late 1950s and likely wasn't fully developed in the time frame you're modeling. (It certainly wouldn't look as it does today.) Your best bet is to keep things to the original Lincoln Highway and perhaps the original north-south highway 287 (as a two-lane road).
Cheers!

Thanks for the info. A lot of the route is artistic interpretation but I have bought several books and have found old maps and other photos that have helped get it closer to reality.

While I sort out what to do with Route 30 I have finally finished some of the last major track work:

Had a big setback yesterday. Some odd track connection sank one of the mainlines down 40 feet into the ground along the whole route... Luckily I have backups but they're about a week old by now so missing a lot of the track work I did in Cheyenne yard and Granite. Biggest disappointment is all the custom track at Hermosa has to be redone as well..

I'll take a break for a few days and hopefully get back to it.

Feel your pain buddy.

If I could count the times I've been there myself. Each time I tell myself to make backups more frequently, and each time I get focused, loose track of time and forget to heed my own advice; and each time I find myself doing this: **!!bang!!**
"The definition of insanity is doing something over and over again and expecting a different result" -Albert Einstein !!bang!!

If I can offer any consolation, you can now fix what you didn't like the first time round and maybe find a better, faster way of doing it.
Good luck, and fantastic work thus far!

As always, another stunning pic. Sorry to hear about the setback too, I feel for you. I am not sure I would have the patience so **!!bow!!** to you that does...

A really helpful tip here.
You don't have to backup the whole route, everyday, but do a copy of the tracks.bin in the networks folder on a very regular basis.

Didn't the undo button work?
When something weird happens, I stop everything and go back a couple of steps with the undo button.

/bumping

I think i have figured out the signal problem, being the models not the functionality. Earlier it was stated that the signals back in the day were older style Safetran type d signals. Actually some of these signals might be of US&S heritage. I found a similar looking signal:

US&S Signal.jpg

Now THIS would be a useful signal to have ingame for this project!

They would be nice, but the current ones do not spoil the experience that much. The problem I have is signals not actually functioning correctly. I've taken a break on the project for a while, but I will start again soon.

I have not figured out the signaling yet, nor have I given it much of a lookover lately.

Maybe sometime soon

If you really need some signalling help, I know a guy.
Gorbi loves signals. He might be able to help out.

Do you hear this? This is the sound of somebody desperately hoping that this magnificent project hasn't died a death. It is too important to we fans of steam to be allowed to die (I was looking for a grovelling Smilie without any luck, maybe **!!bow!!** )

With the new sim coming, those with a vintage interest are desperate for what we can get, which wont be catered for in the new one... Given all the UP steam available, a vintage SH will be of great interest...

(Have I grovelled enough :D )

**!!bow!!** for luck... (and a !*drool*! )

!*cheers*!
