Hi All,

Just a quick progress report. I've 'roughed in' or completed scenery in several small areas along the route containing the three distinctly different 'environment types'. I'm pleased with the way the assets and textures have worked at the northern end, which is more green, and rainforest like, and the southern end which is more sparse and arid. I've been struggling with getting 'the right look' of the semi-mountainous and mountainous areas entering and exiting the Rogue River Valley though. I'm going to find or make some new terrain textures for those areas. If anybody has any pointers or advice on adding terrain textures I would appreciate it.

While I'm figuring that out, I'm going to start on the scenery in the 'gaps' between the areas that I've already completed. Between Merlin and Hugo I have 5 miles of scenery to complete, and from Edgewood to Gazelle I have about 9 miles left. By the time I've finished those areas I hope to have added some better ground textures so I can start working north from Grenada.

Just 'cause updates aren't much fun without a picture, below is some very preliminary work I've done in the Ager area.

Just so nobody thinks that I've been slacking on this....

Working away on the heavily forested section from Siskiyou Summit, down to Steinman siding. The truss bridge over the I-5 is in the foreground, and what will soon be the Wall Creek Viaduct is up the hill.

Lazy, Lazy, Lazy... !!spank!!
While you've been slacking, I've gotten from Reno to Cisco on mine. *!greengrin!*

Actually, I've slowed on mine some. I've gotten into a Linux thing and just plain want to drive my trains sometimes instead of landscaping a route.
It looks great Boosted.

Eric, you're a machine dood! You're getting close to my favorite part of Donner!

I spent most of the evening mucking around trying to make the Wall Creek Viaduct from bits and pieces from the Donner Assets. Nothing was the right colour, or size for what I needed. Then lo and behold, the 'ol RWA file library came through! John Lippai's NRD Trestle assets are a hidden gem. Despite being over 4 years old, they are some of the best looking, and comprehensive trestle pieces I've seen.

Looking uphill from the I-5 girder bridge. The scenery is still WIP. (contrast with the pic from last week with the Donner trestle WIP)

...whats a good trestle without some tonnage to test it out?

Beautiful... I have lots of Espee traffic just waiting for you route.....
We really need and appreciate you filling the whole left by the troublesome Natron Cutoff/Willamette Pass Route in this region of the States.

If say, I was to do a road trip down 99E from Eugene to the summit, would there be photos you would like taken? I'm considering a couple of driving trips to get away from the house.

I know where there are several of the lower quadrant semaphores both single and doubles. Of course they are dead, but I can get decent pics of them.

Oh, the new SD9 from DTG may accidently show up as the Eugene based SP4404 (now homed at Niles Canyon). Depends on if I can get the proper lights installed.

Scenery is now 95% complete from the 'east' switch at Siskiyou to tunnel 15. A few bushes and scrub to put in still, but I'm pretty happy overall.

Absolutely beautiful. Payware quality. This is how Donner Pass could have looked ...

You should be both happy and proud over your route.

This is how Donner Pass is looking these days.

I've got the worst of Donner (the East half) all done up and blended in at Cisco.
I'm just trying to figure out if I want to go as far as Emigrant Gap, before releasing "Donner Redo Phase 1"
Any normal length route would be done by now, but Donner Pass' 150 miles is daunting to redo.

At this point I'm mostly just fixing floating flora, rocks etc.
The East End is now much better looking than the Roseville end, or at least on par with the west side.

What's funny is most of the assets were already in the Donner files, but unused...

Trying not to derail the Siskiyou thread. Eric, you found unused assets in Donner Pass and are using these now to upgrade the DP scenery? Is there a separate thread on this?

Speaking of California mountain routes, there was a Feather River route in WIP. Whatever became of that?

Donner Pass is in good hands with Eric. !!*ok*!!

The Feather River route appears to have gone cold unfortunately. I hope RVA is still working on it despite not being active here.

Maybe not unused, but used little.
There are tons of flowers and things I found by accident in the Donner Pass Assets folder one day, but they aren't available in editor for some reason... !*don-know!*
Red Flowers are one. I suspect they are supposed to be poppies.
I'm not home right now, but I'll see if I can dig up the file path and post.

It really is looking great Boosted. !!*ok*!!

P.S. I don't think this is thread derailing, as the two projects are using similar asset resources. Therefor swapping of info between us is helpful.

If an asset you've found in a folder isn't available, it has no category assigned to it in the blueprint, or is it set to non-selectable? Perhaps that flower is a child object to a patch of vegetation? RW_Tools should help you out, but you've got to go through all the assets in that folder.
