This is one route I look greatly forward to.

Thank you.

With so much hyperbole and self-honoring going on in the world I'll take 'certainly adequate' as a sensible assessment. From time to time I am reminded of Maximus's line from Gladiator - "The time for honoring yourself with soon be at an end." I wonder if Bob has ever carved a headstone with "He Was Certainly Adequate!'? I rather like that.

!*roll-laugh*!

A few odds 'n ends...

1) Another Vulcan Materials Co. site, there is railroad access at this location.
2) A wash just East of Vulcan.
3) Solar farm near Phelan.

It's hard to believe how good this route is going to be. You could spend a lifetime with just this one route. Looking forward to it..... keep up the good work!

Thank you sir!

I'm hoping it won't take a lifetime to finish, though it does feel like it at times.

Thank you!

A bit more work in Palmdale and kitbashing the car parks that are topped with solar panels.

Thank you. It's just me putting the route together but if were not for the community then it would have been a much lesser effort. For all that is good in the route you can thank many members of Railworks America and for all that is bad I will take the blame solely on myself.

It is content like this that make Railworks so interesting. TSW looks nice but Railworks is quality content and this is some of the best.

Thanks guys. Working hard to get it in shape for an Alpha release. Don't want to predict when so just know that it is being touched and looked at every day.

Treated myself over the weekend to the VRC U30C leasing set for the SP skin. Beautiful model for my all-time favorite railroad. A big thank you to VRC for making this available over the weekend! This is probably a highly unrealistic consist for this particular QD, but as I was working on QD's I decided to give it a go and see how far I would get. The consist is the supplied 11 U30C's and 84 coal loads and the QD is for West Colton Departure yard to Yermo. If you were to guess that I would not get very far you would be correct.

At Slover, notch 8 @ 24mph

Approaching Baseline Rd. overpass.
Screenshot_Cajon_Mojave_34.12108--117.34620_17-50-21.jpg

From Baseline Rd., head-end approaching 210, down to 19mph
Screenshot_Cajon_Mojave_34.12106--117.34715_17-52-13.jpg

And... halfway between Slover and Dike it stalls. Don't try this at home folks. I imagine that coming down the pass with this consist would lead to one heck of a cleanup.

Hmm... with that weight to horsepower ratio (roughly figured 3.5 hp/ton), I would have thought your coal train would have no problem making the grade. I'll have to look up my U30C test train I used on the original Cajon route (BNSF side) for the hp/ton ratio. I had no problem making Summit using the #2 track, although it was a slow grind.

As a frame of reference...

SP Tanktrain UBKDO from Saco to Carson was 72 loaded tankers, with 5 8200/8500 SD40T-2 in lead, 6 more at mid-train, and 1 pusher on the rear after the caboose. The pusher and mid-train units were dropped a Tehachapi after the climb from Bakersfield.

I tested this setup on Hacks TP and it worked fine. Bringing it down CP was a handful!

I guesstimated 3.5hp/ton as well and thought that I might make somewhere between 15 and 20 mph up the pass. It sure does seem like this consist should make it to summit. Just after passing Duffy street the grade goes to 2.2%, you can see the grade in the last shot above. I'll have to give the same consist a try on the BNSF side on trk 2 and see what happens, though I can pretty well guess since the grade is going to be the same starting around Verdemont or so. In the test above, as soon as I hit the 2.2% grade I started to get wheel slippage, sanders were on. Speed came down awfully fast and bringing back the power to notch 2 stopped the slippage but sealed the fate of the run.

Just for the heck of it I'll make as similar a consist as I can in Run8 and see where that gets me... might as well make a similar consist in TS2017 using a different engine and see what happens.
