Are there terrain tiles where all the black boxes are? One thing I discovered is that you need to have all of them there or the distant thingy has a kind of a nervous breakdown.

Check that distant terrain thread I posted the link to from my Siskiyou thread. 'Paragon' experienced the same issue at first, but was able to sort it out.

Thanks. I'm sure you say it in jest, but no need for a separate drive I would think. The route is not even as big, file size wise, as many routes from DTG.

There are extracted terrain tiles where the boxes appear. I am hoping your point about all of them being needed is what the problem may be. The screenshot below shows the route and all the extracted terrain tiles in blue. The large gap in the center could be problematic and I also notice that a line of sight from Summit to Barstow just cuts over several unextracted tiles. The next step, as I see it, is to fill in all the gaps and make the entire area you see blue with extracted terrain. It will significantly increase the size of the terrain folder but if it works than I will be a happy camper.

Off I go to do some serious extracting!

And before I go extracting I will do that! Thank you!

RWInfo

Available here;

https://www.10a.ch/en/rwinfo

First one listed on the page, click on 'read more' towards the right hand side for the download page. Once you install and start it you will have to go to Settings, Railworks Directory and then point it to wherever you have Railworks. Once it's up you highlight the route from the list and it takes 5 to 10 seconds to read the route and display the schematic. You can click on 'Tools' and then choose 'Tile Coloring' to highlight whatever tiles you wish. Under 'Window' is 'Display route info' which will give you a list of track types used in your route and the mileage.

Edit: Link fixed

That link seems to be broken or not correct.

DM is kind of hot or miss - remove the route's Terrain\textures folder and the lines/black squares will vanish, but will leave you with a solid color defined in the route's Texturing.bin. DTG are aware of the DM texture bug that's plagued TS since 2013/14, but haven't come up with a fix. Now that TSW is on the way, I doubt it'll ever get resolved. *!rolleyes!*

I completed extraction of terrain to where there was a line of sight between my 0,0 tile and pretty much anywhere else in the route without crossing over any unextracted terrain tiles, results were much worse - endless lines through each tile the entire length and breadth of the route. I also had tried removing the texture folder and was left with what you mentioned, a solid ground color. Hit or miss is right, in this case a solid miss... a shame, San Gabriel Mountains were a sight for sore eyes, but I lived without them for 2 years and survived.

Oh, well, enough time wasted on it. Thanks to all for your input, perhaps I'll revisit the issue at a later date.

WIP of a very small section of the Palmdale Cutoff at the West end of the Palmdale siding where 25th St. E. slips under the track.

Still busy working on the route despite the added distraction of TSW. All pictures in this post and the next (except 1 and 1/2) depict scenery added in the last 2 weeks.

Palmdale, California - WIP. 2 mile stretch of Suburban development after development, after development, after development...
