Nice. You have captured the feeling of the area well.

Thanks guys , and that's good to know I've gotten the feel close, that's important. I have to admit I've had some help with the look of the area from a CA native. He describes it as rock, sand and dead things.

Dead things?

Thats not a word I would use for the Sierras (not even for Death Valley), and I am a native of CA. Good thing John Muir is not alive to meet your friend. He would have been pulled by his ear on a very long nature trek.

Does your work on this route mean the Lackawanna is shelved for the time being?

You still have plenty of opportunity to build custom assets, if one takes the 3DTrains MSTS route as an example.

o_OOOO_oo-Kanawha,

Well I've been waiting for more info from the lead on that route and trying to find trackcharts (with no luck so far)............ so until more is heard, yes I've shelved it.

In reality this whole FR project started as a way to learn the editor before I jumped off on the DL&W route, but now that I've got this rock rolling I might as well keep pushing until this is compleated. (120+ miles of track is nothing to just throw away.) I think will take on the DL&W after I finish this one. The DL&W is 300+ miles of track !**duh*!! Plus it's my home route, runs past my house about a mile away. Though the trains usally come rumbling though in the middle of the night here so getting pics is tuff at 3am.

Well his friend thinks California is very dry...

He also thinks he would get along with Mr. Adams very well :D

Dry? Perhaps compared to Hawaii. *!!wink!!*

Mr Adams had an exceptional eye. I love his work. If I still had a office of my own you would see two authorized posters up on the walls (alas those days are long gone, LONG LIVE THE CUBICAL!).

Oh, and I see a definite absence of sand, dryness, or dead things in that picture.

However! Ask and yea shall receive!

Though I bet you it does rain, and there is plenty growing flora, and cute (sometime venomous) animals scurrying around on the ground.

Now that's what you call "depth of field"! Great image; I hadn't seen that one before.

Sacramento to Reno........... !*hp*!

I'm a little late to this thread, but you are right. Those tracks to Reno do look haggard in Google! I have no idea if they are still used. My guess is if Donner Pass was somehow blocked for any reason, trains could technically detour through the Feather River and down to Reno to continue their normal route from there. But I'm not sure if that rail is heavy enough for big trains. Certainly looks pretty rusty looking, so it doesn't seem to be getting any use at the moment.

When I first saw that on google, I just followed them into Reno. I dropped into street view to look at it at points along the route. It's runnable, but it won't win any awards for condition. !*roll-laugh*!

Your route is looking good! Once you get this done and Marc get's Tehachapi Pass done, there isn't many interesting routes left to do of California. A few that I can think of is UP's coastal sub (the northern other half of the Surfliner route L.A. to San Luis Obispo)..... Redding,CA to Klamath Falls,OR....Colton,CA to Yuma,AZ..... Yermo,CA to Las Vegas, NV ..... and Barstow,CA to Needles,CA.

The little branch into Santa Cruz, CA would be an interesting little scenic route for local traffic and shunting. *!greengrin!*
