Hehe. Well, I started the discussion elsewhere where it'll attract people who like this stuff, so fingers crossed there might be results. Not looking too good atm though.

Cool... we have a spark. To add to your list of thoughts.... if I were going to do it, I would not worry about modify all the existing stock. I would create a special set of stock just for the hump yard. Talk with Michael about using his Lo-Poly car set as a start. I expect that those who enjoy this action will eventually start creating Lo-Poly "copies" of whatever stock they want to see in the hump yard (I think that's fairly easy to do, isn't it?). I would also create .rwp packages for the scripts so folks could install the ones they want with almost no technical expertise (but I can see problems with that if it's the shape file that needs modded).

One idea I wondered about making a free-rolling car.... what if the "framework" was based on a locomotive "blueprint" instead of the usual rolling stock foundation? Was theorizing that maybe having control of all the properties of a loco (and AI) might give you the parameters needed to "free" it?? Does that make sense? Sorry, I'm not good with that terminology; I don't know anything about doing that stuff... is just something that crossed my mind.

I'm glad to see there's interest in this. While I have had fun (and learned some things) laying out this yard, I've been wondering just what the heck anyone is going to DO with all that track. Frame rates ARE going to be an issue; even overheating the pc (well, my laptop at least!) is a problem. I didn't leave out any tracks this time; they are allll there! I see lots of scenario and even fun free-roam possibilities but I wonder if anyone's pc is going to run them??? Well, I know Pete's will on that upgraded liquid-cooled supercomputer he's bringing home in a few days... !*roll-laugh*! *!greengrin!*

We thought of using an engine blueprint - the alternative ( and it appears to be the only alternative ) would be to use air-piped stock & trigger the handbrake at the retarders; that might work pretty well with your intention to use custom stock. A full modern train of loaded US stock with no brakes would be a real laugh, so... best not move them out of the yard :). Is it flat, by the way? ( other than the humps, obviously! )

Note noone's actually tried anything yet! still chewing the cud.

I'm a brand new forum joiner, long time user and follower, and this is my very first post! I was wondering what the status was for this route/yard. If it's scrapped, but still in existence, I was wondering if somebody could email it to me. I have been to Bailey yard a few times and could provide footage of a bus tour. I really think this could work and be a great addition to the sim!!! !*salute*! :D :D !!*ok*!!

It looks like you're modeling something simular to the Chicago Metro, would love to see a big city in the route. That would really make it interesting, even more if it was set in the 1930's.

It's not dead, just dormant.

Tori turned the files for the route over to me. Unfortunately, it's going to be a while before I get the nerve to start work on it, have two smaller routes in the oven.

The trackage in Bailey Yard is complete, minus switch stands and signals. The mainline to Kearney is probably 75% complete. I have toyed with the idea of doing the Yard as a Phase 1, and the mainline as Phase 2, but honestly the prospect of signalling that yard is beyond my current skill level. **!!bang!!**

I've offered it up to the team at NERW to complete as a group build but their current project will keep them tied up for a while.

Tori has been MIA for a while, I think she moved and has internet troubles. I hope she's not in that part of Colorado that's burning. !*don-know!*

I believe she moved up to Washington and the only Internet option she found was via satellite, which isn't a very good option.

She's getting back into the swing of things, updating her forums more now. Think she found a good ISP out there in the tall woods.

She released a small patch for the C&O Allegheny route recently on her forum.
