How did you manage to get that map/9 view zoomed out so far? I'd like to be able to do that on my end.

A little program called RWInfo. The ability to see the entire route on one screen is pretty much the only reason I use it.

You can pick it up here;

https://www.10a.ch/en/rwinfo

Click on the 'Read more' on the right hand side after the little blurb about what it does and that will take you to the download link.

I had planned to have the Lucerne sub in before the beta but that is now on a back burner since I decided to finish all the track on the Mojave sub first. I don't remember what the Lucerne is exactly, maybe 22 miles and that is all at 20mph just to get to Cushenbury. I expect that zero people would be interested in running that sub but I will probably, eventually put that in because I'm just plain crazy in that way.

Count me amoung the "zero" people. There's at least three other industries out there with Mitsibishi Cement worked by BNSF crews out of Oro Grande, Victorville and Hesperia.....if I recall correctly. And it's a steep grade pull for loaded coal...full dynamic on the way back. Post beta is fine.....

Count me as a zero person too! For me, if a route is set in current time, I'm the person who wants to see the same thing in game as on google earth in terms of trackage (to a point). And of course the original Cajon was no where near complete. So I'm very happy to hear that you will be making sure the original route gets completed. To me it's just a bonus with all the other trackage you've added. !*cheers*!

Okay then!

Count me in as a zero person as well. I didn't think anyone else would be interested and now I know better. Knowing that it will appeal to someone other than myself will make it easier to do... otherwise I'd be grumbling to myself the entire time I worked on it - "Why do you torture yourself so?"

Putting in the track for the Lucerne Sub and it's going fairly quick. 58% done, 17 of 29 miles. No scenery for this sub till after the beta and even then finishing the Mojave sub is first priority.

It's going to be an interesting ride for sure. 29 miles at 20 mph with many grade changes; you must be constantly paying attention to upcoming grades or you'll be either speeding before you know it or down to 3 mph wondering where all your momentum went.

#9 view showing the progress on the Lucerne Sub. Connecting to the Cajon sub at Hesperia on the left with Sidings at Thorn to the North and Frost just above that.

2nd shot tells me this is going to be hard to scenic. It's the last 2 1/2 tiles with track from the #9 view. The cream color on the ground is from the weather mod (With 2D weather it's the point at which all goes dark) and that's the point at which all terrain painting disappears with assets fading out a bit before.

Fantastic..... Yea, it's only 29 miles, but it's a rough and tumble 29 miles that will test your engineering skills.

As you said, "It's going to be an interesting ride for sure. 29 miles at 20 mph with many grade changes; you must be constantly paying attention to upcoming grades or you'll be either speeding before you know it or down to 3 mph wondering where all your momentum went."

Thanks for including it for the future....

Updated route map and detail map of recently added Lucerne Subdivision and Cemex's Black Mountain spur.

A tiny bit of information taken shamelessly from the web;

Omya California Inc.
Omya's plant in Lucerne Valley, California is a dry grinding facility providing bright white calcium carbonate products ranging in size from the coarsest products with a median diameter of 45 microns down to the finest product with a median diameter of 2 microns. The Lucerne Valley facility utilizes very pure stone that has excellent color. The products are shipped in bulk, semi-bulk bags and 50# bags to paint, plastics and building products customers throughout the southwestern United States.

Specialty Minerals Inc.
limestone/calcium carbonate fillers

Cemex Cement Apple Valley Black Mountain
Today, the CEMEX’s Black Mountain plant is the largest Portland cement facility in the United States . The High Desert mining industry boomed after World War II. Many returning GIs moved to California creating a need for additional infrastructure. These new families needed homes, schools, roads, etc. This building boom needed limestone for the required construction materials; cement for concrete, fine grind limestone for glass, roofing products, paints, adhesives and stucco. Limestone is also important as a filler in plastics and paper and is important in pharmaceutical products such as toothpaste and medicines. People like Henry J. Kaiser were instrumental in building the current mining industry in the High Desert . [/i]

As a reminder, these newly added areas along with the Mojave Subdivision will be unscenicked for the beta release. (Apart from the odd area here and there that I had an urge to do)

Had an urge to start the scenery for the Black Mountain Quarry which got me thinking about this spur and what the typical consist might be, speed etc. After poking around the net it looks like you would have coal going up and crushed limestone coming down and possibly consists of finished cement product. All consists appear to be relatively short, one engine and 12 to 20 carloads. For experimentation I tried the run up with an SD40-2 (Have to try it with an SD60 which is something they do use) with 16 empty coal hoppers, keeping it in notch 8 I was at 14.6 mph on the 3.6% grade portion and reached 64mph as a high in other portions. Next I'm going to load the hoppers and I suspect that I may stall on the first brutal grade that starts soon after leaving the Cemex plant in Victorville and extends approximately a mile and a quarter to the Victorville landfill.

I haven't, at this point, found any information about speed limits. I thought a good starting point might be 20mph since that is the speed on the Lucerne sub but this is not a Class 1 railroad with all the attendant rules and regulations. 20mph is most likely a bad assumption. From some of the railfan boards I have come across it appears as if the Mojave Northern may just throw caution to the wind. One poster indicated a speed of 48mph as he was pacing a train alongside Quarry Road. Other posters have guesstimated 35 to 40mph for trains they have seen and my own estimate from 1 youtube video I have seen is about 35mph.

So... my question is for anyone who may have some non-anecdotal information - What is the line speed? If I can't find out I may just set it at 50mph and then slow it down to 20mph just before the quarry.

Early scenery work at Black Mountain.

That looks really good.

BTW, it's getting a little warm in the Cajon Valley.....

I'm feeling quite sad at the moment. There are some truly devastating videos on youtube of the Phelan area that are heartbreaking to watch. I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to watch your neighborhood burn while watching the news.

Yes, it's bad. Some landmarks are going to be missing..... Better capture multiple screenshots from google while you can for future reference....
