Good luck. It would be a shame to see such beautiful work go down the drain.
Cheers!

Go away on holidays for a few days and look what happens!! *!sad!* Have we managed to resurrect this project, or at least the mediafire back up? Will be very disappointed to see this die.

That said, have spent the past couple of days photographing BNSF freights struggling to climb Mullen Pass with 4 Montana Raillink Helpers. One of the great railroad sights in the USA. Certainly worth a visit.

!*cheers*!

I have a copy sitting on my machine I'm just waiting for Lib to get his machine up and running again, then we can see where he goes from there.

I still have the copy upon mediafire but haven't reinstalled RW yet. The problem is I need to get back all my assets not just the route. I was told if my hard drive just up and fails and the computer doesn't even recognize it that means it's a chip malfunction and not a problem with the hardrive itself, that said if I can't get it fixed it will cost $300+ to go through a professional.

I can upload the version from mediafire but I think this project is officially dead (for the 4th or 5th time) until further notice.

Heres the route/skins

Heres all the extra freeware I think you need (besides what C&O already requires)

You can try placing the drive in the freezer overnight, which might buy some time in getting the stuff backed up (only worked for me on 1 out of 4 drives). If you're forced in having a pro look at it, be prepared to spend at least $700 + the cost of a backup drive.
Cheers!

B, sometimes you can replace the circuit board on your drive with a matching board from another drive and get the info off. Just buy the same size, make and model of the drive that went bad and swap circuit boards. Spin motor could be bad, but that failure doesn't happen that often. You can also swap that yourself.

My roommate is a tech at a small computer shop here in Lomita and he does what's called "reflow technique" with a special hot blow tool to reflow solder on laptops and other PC devices. Most times it works well, but there is always a chance components are just dead. If the platters in your drive are OK, they can be mounted in another drive, but that's the $700 repair Marc was talking about. Platter work has to be done in a clean room. Dust will kill data very fast.

Anyway you go, best of luck, I among most of the rest of us would hate to see your fantastic work die out. Hang in there buddy!

Well, at the rate that hard drives are manufactured these days, I would say that's gonna be near impossible. As close as you can is your best bet. I have swapped circuit boards before just looking at model numbers and had a dead drive work just fine. Could be luck tho. That was the case with a friend's drive, where financial data had to be recovered. Just got lucky maybe. !*don-know!*

I'll see if I can locate a new board...

In the meantime I started working on a new route...It's called the "Parlor Prairie".
