p.s., how's your baby coming along? Any more progress? I think you said you were starting in the cab?

I'm still working on the cab, as well as a few other details. I had a problem with 3DCrafter spontaneously deleting some texturing I'd done, so I had to go back and do it all again.

I've animated the left cab door and the right-side storm window. The control works in both outside and cab view. For example, you can open the door from outside, then go to cab view and the door is still open. Likewise, if you then close the door from within the cab view, and then switch to the outside view, the door is now closed.

I also animated the bell, and the bell cord, so now it swings back and forth while it's ringing (I recorded a really good bell sound off YouTube). The chime is much better now too (another good find on YouTube ... i watched many, many videos until I found the ideal one).

I've put other effects, such as being able to start the electric generator ... you can hear the whine and see the exhaust steam. Same with the cross compressor, you can start it up with the drain rooster open and see the steam coming out of the bottom, as well as hear the loud noise of its pistons. Then you can close the drain male chicken, and the sound continues, but quieter.

The textures look much better now too ... I added some weathering.

There's still a lot to do in the cab, although I already have the 3D interior (with the opening door and storm window, as well as my first working gauge and some other detailed bits and pieces). When I have the basic controls done, I'll think about releasing a beta.

I just tried out the Consolidation in a fresh install of TS2013 (in a different Steam account) and it gives me an SBHH because it uses things like couplings (between engine and tender) and sounds fron the 7F, which are not part of the TS2013 base content. So, it means new users will have problems, unless they buy the old assets. I think I'll bite the bullet and make everything from scratch, except for the buckeye couplings. It means the release will take a bit longer, because doing the sounds is going to be difficult.

May I suggest you use Britkits Buckeye couplers? They don't have the rubber stretchy feel that the originals do, and they have airhoses that connect.

I could do, but if they're payware, I'll have to make my own (because I want this to be 100% free). I've made couplers before, so it shouldn't be a problem (just more work).

They are free. I asked Mr Cowen for permission when I was working on my U30B. His response was that he stated they were freeware on his website and he meant it. :D

Hadn't realised that the default original equipment had bitten the dust. The problem now is going to be the sounds. Quite a few things now no longer work, or work as they did, in favour of the Gen Y XBox generation and personally I am becoming disillusioned with it. Synthesized sounds really just dont cut it - while I love Rick's modelling, his synth sounds on the new cab forward or K-27 just dont cut it and now it looks like a road block in the way of your magnificent Consolidation.

Good luck with getting it sorted out - RS seems to have taken on an Apple vibe; we will change what we like 'cos we can... **!!2cents!!**

I'm starting to get the hang of the sounds (forget that chime, I'm going to fix that *!lol!* ). I might even have a go at doing stereo sounds. The mono sounds are a bit naff.

Cheers,

By the way, in case you're wondering, I've been adding the sand pipes today, as well as modelling the butterfly firebox doors. They'll be fully animated, for the exterior as well as cab interior model.

Here's a shot of the cab interior, showing the work I've done so far on the steam-operated butterfly firebox doors, and some other details on the boiler face. The textures aren't final (I have to balance the colours and tune the brightness and contrast), but I thought I'd let you see it anyway.

The image on the boiler face isn't final either. I'm using it as a guide for modelling and placing the parts in the cab.
