speaking of the MLW version, will you include some of the widecab units? (M420W, and possibly a M630W? and possibly the HR series?)

by the way, how are those hoppers comming along !*roll-laugh*!

I have already made a thread long ago about the M420W I was and will continue to work on. If you don't remember it here it is:

And lol, those hoppers, yeah, I am redoing the model slowly over time.

Woah, woah, woah, woah. I ain't done yet! I still got lots of piping to do, plus the rest of the cab, and doors as well as a few other details. So far the poly count was at 78000. I know, expensive, but that is before final poly cuts and hidden face removal. It won't be terrible, don't worry.

Well, I have a few solutions like I said, so it will be cut. But yes, it will be higher, and trust me, I have seen some ridiculously high poly models in Railworks, on my old machine, which sucked, but I could still run high detailed stuff easily. Don't worry, you'll see. Not to mention the lower detailed models I will make. I would like to get Beta Testers of all kinds of machines to see the limits of the model. If there is anyone willing, drop me a PM.

I'll beta as well. My machine is basically a lower level one so I can test the performance.

Hi,

First, let me say that this is a very exciting project. I love the ALCOs and your rendered models look very well detailed. Thanks for the previews!

You can also break up the model into several models that have lower polycounts. For example, main model: engine body, cab, trucks, ... -- child object 1, hand rails -- child object 2, end side fittings -- and so on. This will make the whole model easier to run on low end systems.

Cheers,
Michael

That is exactly what I am doing! Good to clear up for some people. Thanks!

I dont see 78K being too much of an issue, make sure in sketchup all free standing edges are deleted as well.

like michael said clearly your going to need to break up your model several times just to get it thru to the game. the game wont export any part over 20K and thats a fact. anxious to see performance levels.

one last bit of advice is to keep your material use to 4 or less maps for the main model, you can always add in more for other things as you go. I have a mid range system so if you need someone to beta this who has experience in the field email me.
