Hi all,

I'd really like to apologize for my outburst the other day; I didn't want to discourage people from buying this addon or undercutting RSC's profits. I am extremely thankful for the hard work that RSC has put into Railworks over the years and that they remain dedicated to the program after all this time. I didn't mean to criticize the team at RSC or detract from their customer base. That having been said, I think it's important for us to voice our concerns over products such as this; after all, we will be the people who end up using them. I only wish to see improvements in RSC's products so that we may enjoy them more fully and so that RSC may even attract new customers.

As to the F40PH, I've noticed that RSC's products seem really nice when looking only at the details (e.g. snow effects on Donner Pass,) but seem to be lacking in broader, and perhaps more important, areas. I appreciate the work RSC has put into this, but sometimes I just wish they'd get their act together--c'mon, this stuff is really not that difficult to get right!

Cheers,
Eliot

I'm with mdurdan. Don't apologise. I like that quote "If you can't get it right, make it freeware". I think it's about time RSC offer a a free loco to it's loyal customers (I don't know about you guys but I've bought every North American related product, not to mention about $400 worth of the Pommy stuff) to make up for it's shortcomings, and if nothing else just as a gesture that they actually appreciate our custom.

I second that as well. This is a complety new model for RSC.

They better get it right first time instead of yet another half baked "cost effective" attempt like that SD75. It isn't that difficult, given the Internet's wealth of material available at your fingertips.

As to the wrong truck's profile I might add that perhaps they took their measurements off an H0 scale model? I remember from when I had a model layout that the trucks were always sort of thick and flat in the frames due to modelling/casting limitations. Everything had to be cast in one piece so there was limited "depth" in the moulds.

People are mostly more concerned about upper body detail than about running gear and other parts that are hidden underneath or in the shadows. The presented F40PH model as is does seem to have different Blomberg trucks already, with open bearing housings showing the rotating end caps, and shock absorbers.

I highly doubt that RSC would ever do any freeware, no matter how under quality it looks. You could bug them a million times and they still wouldn't do any since they have to pay the modelers that make the trains.

If they made a freeware locomotive they probably would be short a profit.

I'm glad to hear it; I completely agree. While I'm at it, I'd just like to point out that the trucks are far from accurate in a number of respects--I've attached some pictures so you can judge yourself. Granted, they're from a GP40-2, but the general profile of the sideframes should be identical.

It just kills me when RSC fails to get details such as this right! Honestly, all it would take to fix some of these issues would be a tape measure and a few extra hours of modeling--all of which would be well worth the improved final product(s).

Cheers,
Eliot

A good suggestion since RSC guys don't read these forums much anymore.

Better yet, post on their Face Book page. All you will get from an e mail is a "canned" response. If you get one at all. !*not-ok*!

The response doesn't matter. A canned one is OK.
We don't want the devs to waste time writing e-mails, we want them fixing problems.
What matters is your e-mail is read and your request is entered in the support database.
Then it gets prioritized. It helps if there's a lot of other requests on the same topic.

Looks just like the freeware version, now let's hope the freeware one won't disappear since the creator of it now works in RSC.

It is such an ugly locomotive one almost starts to like it *!!wink!!*
Nevertheless, a most welcome asset, Amtrak's icon of the late 20th century. A loco that must have run in every service on any route once served by Amtrak.

Does anybody know about matching cars? We only have the AmCan's right?
