In case yall want to see, this was L&S 131 in 2004, amazing what 6 years did to a once proud unit. Sadly the horn was long gone when I went...

Mine are ARR-B Type. You will need ARR-A Type. Which doesn't mean to say that I can't alter my B to become A.... just give me time.

I figured I ought to toss in another B&M picture to give you a better idea of how the nose stripes looked. BTW, Maine Central had some of these units as well, and they were painted identically except for the different lettering and cab herald.

I really like the look of it Steve. I'll make this livery for you. !!*ok*!!

Do you have any initial preference to the truck colors? Silver/Gray, or black??

No particular preference, since it appears the B&M had them in both colors.

Rich,

What a beautiful model! I've been looking forward to this ever since you posted your first WIPs on Elvas Tower a while ago.

I do have a few suggestions, if you wouldn't mind too much:

1. I'd consider adding the traction motors and associated cables and air intakes to your model. Your modeling is a notch or two above most of the North American models I've seen for Railworks so far (including those by RSC,) and it would be awesome if you could incorporate these details. It appears you have access to the 'real thing,' so it wouldn't be too hard to cobble together the general layout and some basic dimensions for the motors.

2. I'd suggest adding some more edges to the roof and window gasket shapes (maybe using a subdivision surface modifier, even.) This would add a bit of depth to your model without increasing the polygon count too drastically (one or two hundred polys at most?) and bring the cab up to par with the rest of the engine.

3. It appears that the nose is composed of two separate shapes that aren't smoothed together (the top of the nose and the walls,) and it might look a bit better were you to smooth them together. I realize this is nitpicking, though, so I apologize for that. !!**sorry**!!

Anyway, this is really fantastic modeling. I'm blown away by your attention to detail (not to mention your amazing trucks, which appear to be properly sized in regards to thickness!) and it will be a tremendous addition to the sim. I think you may be setting a new standard for virtual modeling!

Cheers,
Eliot

Thank you, Eliot. Very kind words, and wonderful suggestions. *!!thnx!!*

My replies to your numbered comments:

1. In regard to traction motors, cables, and air intakes, Id be happy to add them, but im not sure what/where they are located? Here's a (cr@py) photo. Are these the things you're suggesting to build? Also, where are the air intakes that you mention? If you could point them out on a picture for me, that would help me greatly.

2 & 3. Good points, all. I'm going to see how those areas look when they're textured. Sometimes textures can hide the faceting, but if they still look a little rough, I'll smooth them out as you suggest by adding a subdivision modifier, etc. And as far as the nose is concerned, I have a feeling that Im going to be altering those surfaces quite a bit to get the converging textures to all work together, but I will definitely keep an eye on the smoothing of it, as you rightly noted. :-) It has always been a tricky area for me to do right. Even with MSTS models way back when.

Thank you again for your suggestions and compliments, Eliot. They are greatly appreciated. If anything else comes to mind, ideas, opinions, suggestions, ...feel free to pm me. Full speed ahead! !!*ok*!!

The traction motor is probably inboard of the axle & mostly hidden behind the wheel - the thing you've labelled is more likely to be the final drive gearing case.

ah, thanks Kali! :-) Do you know what he means by air intakes, and where they would be located? !*don-know!*
