WOW, I just had one of my drives on my RAID 1 die, and I am checking the rest. Nothing lost (yet) just have to give it some more TLC before working on anything (including RL work).

Sorry to hear that, ps. This is one reason I have an external drive that I do a weekly backup to. I run a RAID 0 so if either drive fails, I lose everything. RAID 1 you can rebuild the RAID with a new, matching drive.

IF you can get a matching drive. I added on in, same space, same spec, but different brand... will not rebuild. Now I don't fiddle with RAIDs too often (1 out of 5 years?), so maybe I missed a step.

Plan B:
Buy a second matching drive to the one I just purchased. Build the RAID. Copy everything over to the new RAID from the old surviving drive.

Now I have a 1TB drive free for use, but not sure if I can trust (remember its sister drive just failed and they were bought together).

Also depends a lot on the RAID utility and board BIOS. But, RAID 1 being a mirror, the info on the drive should (should !**conf**! ) be the same as the boot/ original setup. RAID 0 is a "stripe" I'ts for speed, not redundancy or backup. Each drive only has half the data. So like I said, if I lose one drive, it's all gone. You should be able to get all your data off the remaining drive.

Arizona, Plan B worked. I am not sure why rebuilding did not work.

anyway. I am almost back to speed (tons of copying left).

I guess we can get back on topic now.. How are those local rail yards and mainlines???

I can't get it (rwdecal) to install. It gives me some error saying I need to pur it in my devloper folder or something... I did but it still won't work. I also saw a tutorial and it doesn't seem to make a terrairn for you, is there a program that does that?

RWDecal will not make terrain for you, that would be ReDem.

RWDecal, will take a KML route you generated in Google earth and make decals that you can then use to lay your track, vegetation and buildings.

For example:

DLC bought through Steam will be automatically installed when you install RW.

You need to be responsible for keeping any freeware and payware downloads stored either on a cd/dvd or an separate drive (external or internal).
You might possibly be able to get in touch with payware developers and ask them to resend you the download links.

Not sure what you mean by "Win RAR....fail". Can you be more specific?

win rar fail means for some reason winrar won't work and won't open the item. You might try to get winzip, it will also open up the item file so you can use it.

If we are talking about compression programs 7-zip is free and handles a variety of formats.
