Here are my final pictures from Wisconsin Central's maiden voyage down the Oshkosh tracks in Train Simulator.

I hope you have enjoyed the screen shots of the route so far. I will keep you all updated as I continue to progress on the route.

Thank you for the comments! I am quite excited about this too.

Here are the current DLC requirements, ordered from most important to least important:
  • CSX Hanover Subdivision Route (tracks, ground textures, crossing signals, buildings, sidewalks, signs)
  • Chicago Racetrack Route (roads, signs, floral, vehicle scenery)
  • Clinchfield Route (1980s vehicle scenery, floral, buildings)
  • Stevens Pass Route (buildings, signs, scenery, sidewalks, roads)
  • Train Simulator: Springfield Line: Springfield - New Haven Route Add-On (tele poles, wires, buildings, scenery)
  • Sacramento Northern Route (buildings, wig-wag signals)
  • US Loco Add-On (buildings, scenery details)
  • Flatcars Addon Pack (military vehicle scenery)

Thanks for the list. I still don’t have Sacramento or Springfield so I’ll be waiting for the next sale. I actually just bought Hanover this weekend and holy cow! The industrial buildings are amazing! I was working to get my Chicago Goose Island route into a full relaease until I started working with some of these new assets.

Anyway, I’ve been taking a look at the area you are modeling on Open Rail Maps and I’ll be doing a further dive into Historical Aerials tomorrow to learn more about railroading in this part of the country.

Keep posting these photos. Very inspiring.

Bravo, Bravo! **!!bow!!** !*brav*! !!*ok*!! As someone who drove truck for many Years in that area, before my exile to Oregon, that brought on a boat load of emotions. As a kid living in Ironwood Mi, I took many trips on the "Flambeau 400" & "Ashland Limited" / "Northwoods Fisherman", that used to go South down the CNW Valley Route. The Trains went up North on the Lakeshore Route. I do remember the "Wig-Wags" vividly. Also the Mercury plant & the Foundry were twice weekly stops for me. I also used to stop at Interstate Valweld & the Quad Graphics Plant in Lomira. Carry-on! &, as Bob Hope used to say: "Thanks for the Memories!" Stefan

Thank you guys for the inspiring comments! It is awesome to see folks really excited about this route.

For those not familiar with Oshkosh and the neighboring Fox Cities region, here are some maps to help put it into perspective.

First, looking at a map of the entire US, you can find Oshkosh by locating the big lake near the center of Wisconsin. That lake is Lake Winnebago and Oshkosh is on its west bank.

Zooming into East Central Wisconsin, you can get an idea of the surrounding cities. (I have circled Oshkosh in red)

The following is a link to OpenRailwayMap.org, which shows much of the rail infrastructure in Oshkosh as it existed in the early 1990s.
https://www.openrailwaymap.org/?style=standard&lat=44.01818787481242&lon=-88.54306697845459&zoom=13

I have overlaid the map from OpenRailwayMap.org with colors based on the track operators in 1980.

In the above map, my route screenshots occurred along the red SOO Mainline through Oshkosh.

Mike:
I only ask one thing.. Make it to at least North Fond du Lac, So You can put the static Caboose next to HWY 41. That was my favorite landmark.... It meant my favorite Truck Stop was at the next exit. !*salute*! *!!thnx!!* *!!wink!!*

I miss that caboose being there! I’ll make an effort to get that in to the route, although it may say Pennsylvania or Western Maryland instead of Wisconsin Central. *!lol!*

This was what it looked like during the 1990s when it was along the highway:

Yes please. The route is based sometime between 1980 and 1995 so it was prior to the CN takeover of WC.

Good choice of era as it allows for WC operations and earlier CNW.

That was my thinking as well. On the ex-SOO alignment you could run Soo Line, Milwaukee Road, or Wisconsin Central trains and on the ex-CNW alignment you could run Chicago & Northwestern, Fox River Valley Railroad, or Wisconsin Central. You could even run modern day Canadian National trains if you'd like.

Many other Class 1 railroads also sent trains across these lines, especially since the WC era. BN was a common site during the WC era, and BNSF is still quite common today. WC also acquired locomotives from BN, ATSF, and other railroads during the late 1980s and 1990s, many of which continued to wear the predecessor colors under WC.
