Thanks for the help and compliments guys, I think it's safe to say that I have finished the model now.

Here are three renders from the same spot with different backgrounds, at 1280x1024.

Please, if it turns out to be possible, could you leave one of the doors (or both so you could see through) open on one of the models? It would add atmosphere and a bit of realism.

Secondarily, I would be happy to paint a few for you.

The problem with that is then you have to model the interior!

This is the main thing preventing me from doing this. On top of that I would need to make variations on which doors were open, which would be quite a few combinations.

Well, suggestion on that if you're really thinking of doing it: make the doors as children, then you can just move the child door around.

Finally getting there after some fiddling for a while. I think I'm not going to make a stencil shadow.

Does anyone know how much this thing weighs (empty and full)?

I am excited about this model. SP used a lot of them.

If you are considering an open door then here is a picture:

Comparing the shape to A403 XP Boxcars on rrphotoarchive I think these figures are within the limits:

Max Gross Weight: 220000
Load Limit: 156700

The more I look at it, the more I am dreading those ribs... this is going to be more than a challenge to repaint.

Styckx... if you have any suggestions I am all ears.

Well I'm not experienced at all in repainting, so if anyone wants to give repainting these a try for the main release then just contact me.

Do you know what the empty weight would be?

I believe it would be: 63300 (Max Gross Weight subtracted by Load Limit). I'll search some more and see if I can find a picture of an actual weight stencil for the car.
