Sounds amazing. In which period is this route set?
50s would be nice. So you could add a link to the mainline where we could run some F7 hauled freighttrains.
I think the steam era ended in the 60s in the US?

the steam era basicaly ended in the mid 50's for the US, Canada on the otherhand was the Early 60's. i am having the era set between 1880 and 1930, but you can change it to whatever era you want.

Wow, looking really nice. Where did you get the tree stumps? That's a great feature of your route.

I would say they are Allabord scenery as they can be found in the Ft. Kent to Eagle Lake route.

There is a nice article on logging railroads. Look for "Lumber Railroad" by Jim Morley in Trains magazine, March 1943, pp. 32-42.

Mrs. Santa brought me the Trains Complete Collection on DVD for Christmas. It is well worth the investmet with EVERY issue ever published. I started with the preview issue and am working my way through the entire collection. This will also allow me to clear space in my library by getting rid of alot of magazines. I am also scanning each new magazine for this year as they come.

I am getting really interested in this route; it has a "real" look. I love the look of the "rough track" section; that's realistic! They didn't bother making the smoothest grades for those tracks since many of them were temporary for only a couple/few months. It's slower progress, but where possible, I would leave the "Snap to track" terrain grading tool out of this for realism. Instead, use "Smooth" in the more level areas.

Love the GN tracks for this environment. By lifting the ground above the ties (nearly burying the tracks) in spots you can actually transition from one of his tracks to another for those areas where the logging company might have laid down some gravel... or the age of the track changes... or to transition to that disconnected, sunbleached, piece abandoned among the old stumps and half buried in underbrush. The crane is going to be great! I look forward to driving this (I still need to purchase my shays, too).

Some more ground texturing (I would use the "ballast" file of the matching GN track to make a new ground texture) along the tracks will really set it off. Very nice terrain; is that hand made or imported?

sounds great everyone! the crane looks FANTASTIC! i am thinking of doing some rough track further up the main branch too! i am about to add a passby siding which is right after the above ground helix. (don't worry i make it look good. it fits the rout really well.)
i just got my shays and the early 20th century freight pack today, and i will post some screenshots tonight.

so far:

3 bridges
1 tunnel
1 secondary branch
1 helix
millions of trees!

i guess i should mention that you will need the freeware edition of scalerail. i used the tunnel track for the tunnels because it looks right for the era.(not big enough for containers)

ok i am fixing some problems i have found now that i have the correct locomotives. there is 1 problem though, it is not to big of a problem though, i thought it would be easyer to rename the locomotives but apparentaly you need to edit some files and use paint or something like that. this could push back the release date of the BETA 1.
someone who has the logging megapack from britkits could make this file for me which could end up making the release come out 1 week earlyer!(about the time i would take getting the file right) if anyone is interested in doing this for me here is what i would like: SHERMAN LOGGING Co. if someone does just send me the file or upload it to the file library. now i have some screenshots of Shays and Vulcans on switchbacks!
