This work looks pretty fantastic. I would like to ask if the curves have superelevation.

Probably not... it is unlikely that the prototype had superelevation either.

Looking good. I also see you have the Yreka Western included. I used to the work there before joining up with BNSF, and I spent quite a few hours switching the interchange in Montague. However, judging from the the screen shot of the route map, the track you have laid for the YW doesn't look correct. Also, what time period is this being set at? (if you mentioned it somewhere and I missed it I apologize). If you're doing at an early enough period there would be more online traffic for trains on the southern section of the Siskiyou Line. Fruit Growers Supply had a big mill and box factory at Hilt, that closed in the 70's. The Yreka Western used to move about 10 -15 loads of logs each day from a log reload in Yreka to the interchange in Montague where SP would forward them to Hilt. This lasted from the about 1937 to some time in the mid 60's. Montague also used to have a number of besides the interchange for the YW, including a fuel dealership, a feed mill, and a small saw mill. Looking forward to the finished product.

SP did use SE for many years. What time frame was this route base?

Hi Tim! Thank you for your comments! I'm going to PM you regarding some of the track layout in Montague. For the Y-W I've laid track as far as the Shasta Forest Products mill, but haven't completed the section from there on into Yreka yet. I'm really glad that there is someone on this forum with some direct railroading experience with the area. I'm loosely basing the route between 1980-1992. It was a tough choice because as you noted, there have been so many lineside industries that have gone out of business over the years. I'm torn between being as accurate as possible with a specific period, or 'freelancing' and having an chronologically inaccurate, but potentially more enjoyable route to play. I'm including the big mill in Ashland which was defunct for the last few years of operation, because otherwise as noted the 'western'(southern) part of the route would have virtually nothing but through traffic.

~1980-1992. The areas where track speed is above 25mph have superelevation, and anywhere else that I can confirm has it from my source materials. I've poured over a number of books, online albums, and and photographs, and it appears that alot of the slow speed areas either weren't superelevated, or had such a minor degree of cant that it isn't discernable. I'm open to feedback on this.

The superelevation on curves is one of the effects I like best in this simulation trains. Makes driving seem more real. I think it will be worth the effort because this route seems one of the best in this simulator ... for sure you will have great and good comments from fans for this magnificent work.

FYI, the last time I went that way (2010 IIRC) there were many of the semaphores still standing, although none were live. For a period of time, the tunnel at the summit was unusable because of a fire that damaged several of the timber supports.

Currently, the tunnel is back in use. I'm glad to see the line being built in Railworks.

Great looking Work In Progress. !*salute*! **!!bow!!** !*cheers*!

My question is about the tunnel. Does the photo depict the fire damage, that black swatch in the middle? It looks like all of the timber lining and supports have been sprayed with concrete to make them fire proof?

I can't speak to this photo exactly, as I haven't seen any other photos of the fire damage. I do know that most of the tunnels on the line were wood lined bores, which were later covered in 'gunite' (shotcrete) for reinforcing purposes. I believe that's what you're seeing.

You won't be able to see any the fire damage in Tunnel 13. The burned timbers were replaced and the entire tunnel covered in what I guess is shockcrete or whatever it's called. There was a guy (I forget his name) that made a number of guitars from the old timbers that were pulled out when the tunnel was being rebuilt after the fire.

Working on the 'flat' sections in the Shasta Valley between Gazelle and Grenada. This is some of the irrigated farmland in the middle of the otherwise arid area. Still lots of work to do.

Quite a few miles completed tonight. I hope to have Gazelle-Grenada finished by the end of the weekend.
